Tesla’s NHTSA evaluation for suspension failure is closed

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) closed its preliminary evaluation regarding alleged front suspension failures in 74,918 Tesla vehicles. The NHTSA states the investigation’s closure does not mean Tesla vehicles aren’t experiencing front suspension failures.

In 2020, the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened a probe to look into alleged front suspension failures in 2015-2017 Tesla Model S and 2016-2017 Model X units. The source of the issues was reportedly a failed fore link that could damage other parts of the vehicle.

“One minor crash with no injuries is associated with the 426 instances of fore link failures. A majority of the failures occurred between one to fifteen mph while in driveways or parking lots,” said the NHTSA.

Ultimately, the NHTSA closed its investigation into Tesla’s supposed front suspension failures. This was because there were no instances where a failure of the fore link hindered the driver’s ability to control the vehicle, both during testing and in reported instances of the issue.

Tesla has not issued a comment about the matter as of writing.
