Xpeng battles tough competition and projects low revenue for Q3

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Xpeng is forecasting a lower-than-expected revenue on its electric vehicles for the third quarter after it missed Q2 sales estimates as competition in the region has been tough to beat.

Although the company expects to take a hit on revenue, it did say it expects to deliver between 41,000 and 45,000 EV vehicles in Q3, up from 40,008 units during the same period last year.

The company is already seeing a slight return after announcing a collaborative effort with Volkswagen in February. It has improved gross margins from 1.1 percent to 14 percent in Q2, Reuters reported. These increases were due to technical improvements and revenue from the VW collaboration.

The Xpeng and Volkswagen collaboration saw the two companies agree to the development of two electric vehicles that will launch in the coming years. The cars will be mid-sized SUVs and will be exclusively available in the highly competitive market in mainland China.

Xpeng is also planning to launch a lineup of affordable EVs over the next three years that will be priced from $14,000 to $56,000, hoping to grab market share from the big three in China: BYD, Nio, and Tesla.

Volkswagen and Xpeng have agreed to develop EVs together

Later this month, it will launch the MONA M03, a mid-sized sedan that will compete with the BYD Dolphin, BYD Seagull, and Tesla Model 3.

The company is still working to expand in China, especially now, as tariffs enacted by the European Union are going to cut into plans Xpeng has to send its cars to the market. The EU is attempting to keep foreign vehicles out of the region, prioritizing domestically built vehicles. The United States is attempting to do something similar, and if Donald Trump wins the presidency, we could see major tariffs on foreign-built EVs.

Xpeng expects Q3 revenue to be between 9.1 billion yuan ($1,275,707,027) and 9.8 billion yuan ($1,373,896,517). Analysts expect 10.4 billion yuan ($1,458,012,630).
