Tesla working on buildout of pull-through Superchargers

Recent comments from Tesla executives on social media indicate that the electric vehicle maker is hard at work ramping the buildout of Superchargers with pull-through stalls. This should be a pretty welcome update for electric vehicle owners, especially those who tend to travel with a trailer. 

Tesla’s update on its pull-through Supercharger buildout came as a response to a conversation on social media platform X. Initially, longtime FSD user @WholeMarsBlog highlighted the need for more investment in Superchargers. Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the FSD user’s post, stating that Tesla is opening a lot more Superchargers.

Musk’s comments incited a lot of responses from the Tesla community, with some stating that there needs to be more pull-through spots in Supercharger stations. These comments are unsurprising as Teslas with trailers will likely be a common sight in the near future, particularly when Tesla Cybertruck production ramps up. 

Addressing these concerns, Tesla Cybertruck Vehicle Program Manager Siddhant Awasthi noted that work is already underway to ramp the buildout of Superchargers with pull-through stalls. The Tesla manager also highlighted previous comments from Cybertruck Lead Engineer Wes Morrill, who noted that Tesla is working on showing trailer-friendly stalls on the all-electric pickup truck’s in-vehicle UI.

Regardless of the fact that Tesla already operates the largest and most reliable rapid charging network in North America, the Supercharger Network still needs to be expanded. This is especially important considering that more non-Tesla EVs will be using Superchargers due to their adoption of Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS).  

As per Tesla’s official NACS page, Supercharges currently make up three out of four fast chargers in North America. So far, over 15,000 Supercharger stalls are ready for use by non-Tesla electric vehicles. Considering that NACS is now open to Rivian and Ford EVs—which include the R1T and F-150 Lightning, both of which are great for towing—Tesla needs to ramp its pull through Supercharger buildout soon.
