Dealers are starting to panic with the car market reset. People are no longer flocking out to buy new cars, instead they are holding onto their current vehicles for much longer. With new car prices skyrocketing nearly 45% since 2019, the cost of insurance over tripling since then, and the overall cost of living shooting the moon. People can’t keep up! Vehicle repo rates are surging right now, unlike ever before. Last year in 2025, we had over 2.5M cars repossessed by banks. In 2024, there were 1.75M repos, and 1.5M in 2023. We are seeing the highest levels of 30-day, 60-day and 90-day auto loan delinquencies… ever!
People who have their cars repo’d are not re-entering the new car market anytime soon. In the last 3.5 years alone, that’s 6M+ people not buying new cars in 2026, they unable to now. Car dealers are struggling to move their new car inventory, used cars are selling better because people can’t afford new now. We currently have over 3.1M new cars, trucks and SUVs collecting dust across the country. Auto makers need to pivot, and pivot fast. Dealers have no choice but to discount their inventory tremendously. If they don’t, they’ll go bankrupt. It’s up to them. The greedy dealers will fail first, and fail fast in 2026-2027.
The car market reset will undoubetly drive huge discounts, incentivized interest rates, incentivized leasing options, and force auto manufacturers to re-introduce lower specced trims that are actually affordable. People just want three things: reliability, simplicity, and affordability. $1,000 car payments are becoming the new norm… so far 84 month auto loans. That’s a breaking point appearing before our eyes. People cannot afford a new car, and the people foolish enough to buy new right now are losing their vehicles to the repo man.

Between the greed of the automotive industry and demonrats shouting “climate change” and all of their associated “feel good” legislation, what can anyone expect.
The cost of everything has skyrocketed and people just don’t have the funding.
The cost of a new vehicle now cost 5 times more than my parents paid for their last house and the cost of housing has gone up 20-30 times over what they cost back then. Insurance companies are raping everyone they can so like the rest of corporate America, they can over pay their executives.
