Tempest Collective
The Tempest Collective, which describes itself as anti-capitalist, anti-racist and abolitionist,[1] wrote on October 8:
Over this past weekend, in an impressively orchestrated action, Palestinian resistance fighters broke through the fence enclosing Gaza. In a series of attacks within territory illegally occupied by Israel, they held some ground, captured Israeli weaponry and instituted a sharp turn in the political situation. Retaliatory attacks by Israel have begun and the death toll on both sides is rising. What is called Operation Al-Aqsa Flood is an attempt by Hamas and other political factions to change the balance of power in a status quo that is becoming more completely untenable to Palestinian existence. This Palestinian resistance is legitimate and justified.
…
Relatedly, we need to reject anything that approaches the mealy-mouthed pacifism that claims to want a stop to the violence “on both sides” or associates Palestinian resistance with terrorism. That is the terrain of the defenders of Zionism and a justification for its violence. Bernie Sanders exemplifies this as he has come out on cue leading with condemning the resistance.[2]
The last paragraph of the statement contains a link directing readers to the website of Samidoun, which is widely seen as a front for the PFLP terrorist group.
Tides Advocacy
Tides Advocacy[3] is the fiscal sponsor[4] of Dream Defenders[5] and Mass Liberation Project. [6]
Dream Defenders’ long history of support for terrorists including Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine can be found in its section in Appendix A.
Mass Liberation Project expressed its support for Hamas on October 21:
In solidarity with Palestine, we reject the blatantly racist, Islamophobic narrative that claims Hamas is a terrorist organization. We do not condemn Gazan resistance. The expectation that the victims of a brutal 75 year imperialist occupation denounce their own resistance and betray their cause is a manipulative tactic of the US and other world leaders to delegitimize Palestine’s right to sovereignty. We acknowledge Hamas as a legitimate political actor and democratically elected Gazan resistance working to free Palestinian people. We unequivocally support Palestine’s demands and acknowledge Operation Al-Aqsa Flood as a necessary step to secure Palestine’s freedom. There are not two sides to genocide. As Palestinian people resist ethnic cleansing they must have unwavering global support. [original emphasis][7]
Tides Center
Tides Center[8] is the fiscal sponsor of the pro-Hamas groups Adalah Justice Project,[9] Arab Resource and Organizing Center,[10] Palestine Legal,[11] Catalyst Project and Dream Defenders’ Education Fund.[12]
Torch Antifa
Torch Antifa’s immediate reaction to Hamas’s attacks was to publish a post declaring “Free Palestine!”[13] Andy Ngo, who authored a book on Antifa and first reported on the post, describes Torch Antifa as “the largest network of formal violent Antifa chapters.”[14]
An article on its website by Central Texas Anti-Racist Action expresses sympathy for “Palestinians’ fierce struggle against colonization,” as well as the governments of Iran and Syria, which it depicts as being targeted by Israel solely because of each country’s “attempts to free itself from American control of its natural resources and finances.”[15]
It further boasts of successful attacks on its enemies, making it clear that it is referring to the October 7 attacks by including a link to an analysis about Israel’s failure to stop the invasion titled, “Israel’s Military Tech Fetish is a Failed Strategy.”[16] The anarchist article reads:
While profit and capitalist ideology have led Israel and America to place their faith in high-tech toys, we know that the masses make history. Their delusions of superiority have been shattered by the rebirth of rebellion, occurring right under their noses but catching them utterly off-guard and unprepared.
All of their cell phone spyware, surveillance satellites, and “artificially intelligent” missile shields cannot elevate the IDF above concentration camp guards of the past. They will flee or fall like any other cruel jailer in the face of humanity’s struggle for liberation.[17]
It finishes with listing seven sites in Texas that should be targeted: The University of Texas; Texas A&M; Austin Community College; Army Futures Command Group; ACC Rio Grande in Austin; Bush Combat Development Complex Research Integration Center in Bryan; LBJ School of Public Policy in Austin.
Trans Resistance Action Committee
Trans Resistance Action Committee organized a protest against conservative commentator Ben Shapiro’s speaking engagement at the University of Wisconsin[18] where the demonstrators held signs justifying the October 7 attacks, saying “Resistance is Not Terrorism” and calling for Israel to be destroyed.[19]
Tucson Anti-War Committee
Tucson Anti-War Committee celebrated the October 7 attacks, posting a picture of one of the bulldozers destroying the security fence and wishing Hamas to be victorious.[20]
UChicago United for Palestine
UChicago United for Palestine endorsed Shut It Down for Palestine in November 2023,[21] which expresses its adoration for the terrorist groups attacking Israel:
Failing on the battlefield, Zionist forces are compensating by punishing the Palestinian people. And yet, resistance remains strong. 150 days of genocide, and a people’s resistance endures in the rubble of their cities, still fighting to defend their territory, with no sign of abating. In the Lebanese hills north of the occupied lands too, resistance forces are striking Israeli war infrastructure and its soldiers’ staging posts. The Yemeni resistance continues its counter blockade. From Iraq, daily drone attacks continue on Zionist installations. Meanwhile a quietly rising giant is also making its voice heard. Operations in the cities of the West Bank are increasingly becoming more sophisticated, despite execution campaigns and mass arrests. The youth of Palestine and the region have chosen to shake the yoke of imperialism. We must, as people of conscience, recognize that the process of liberation will be led by the Palestinian people themselves.[22]
The organization took a leading role in setting up an anti-Israel protest encampment on the premises of the University of Chicago in 2024. It denied involvement in the seizure of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics in May 2024 and claimed the perpetrators were part of an “autonomous” group. However, as WBEZ Chicago pointed out, UChicago United for Palestine publicly supported the takeover and declared the Institute of Politics to have been renamed as the “Liberated Casbah of Basel Al-Araj.”[23]
United National Antiwar Coalition[24]
The United National Antiwar Coalition endorsed the October 7 attacks in a statement titled, “Free Palestine! Resistance is justified when people are occupied!”[25]
It then states:
The United National Antiwar Coalition stands firmly behind the people of Palestine as they resist over 75 years of brutal and illegal occupation by the Israelis. We call on people and organizations across the United States to take to the streets to support the cause of a free Palestine and to demand an end to all US military and economic aid to Israel.
…
UNAC condemns US wars for occupation, greed and resources. We recognize that under international law, Palestinians have the legal right to resist the Israeli occupation. The present violence between Palestinians and Israelis represents a decades-long struggle by an oppressed people for liberation.” [original emphasis]
It also signed a declaration of the Committee of Anti-Imperialists in Solidarity with Iran that backs Iran’s direct attack on Israel and explicitly chooses the side of the Iran-led “Axis of Resistance” consisting of the government of Syria, Iran-backed Palestinian terrorist groups including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Yemen-based Houthis and Iran-backed militias in Iraq who are trying to kill U.S. troops. It also sides with Russia by denouncing the “US and NATO proxy war in Ukraine.”
It brags:
The US no longer has control over West Asia. Put simply, the days of the US subjugating the nations of the region are over. This is owed to the steadfastness of Palestinian resistance and the growing deterrence capabilities developed by the Axis of Resistance from Palestine to Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.[26]

US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR)
US Campaign for Palestinian Rights (USCPR) acts as the U.S. wing of the official Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions National Committee (BNC), an entity in Israel and the Palestinian Territories that has extensive and direct ties to terrorist groups. BNC collects donations through USPCR.[27]
BNC responded to the October 7 attacks with a statement that expressed solidarity with the “Palestinian freedom fighters” and their “justified use of armed resistance against the oppressors’ military and civilians.”[28] BNC then removed the language and added a note claiming that hackers had edited their statements.[29]
Its website still praises a wave of terrorism committed by Hamas and many unaffiliated extremists that began in October 2015 and didn’t end until June 2016.[30]
BNC’s ties to terrorism are so close that its leadership includes the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces, an umbrella body for coordinating the efforts of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, PFLP, PFLP-GC, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and other extremists.
The executive director of USCPR is Ahmad Abuznaid. He co-founded Dream Defenders (DD) and was its chief operating officer and legal and policy director until September 2016. He took his current position as the leader of USCPR in 2020. He remained involved with DD for years after his departure, including interviewing applicants for the group’s 2018 Palestine Delegation.[31]
DD has a long history of supporting the PFLP terrorist organization and idolizing anti-American communist militants and activists under and after his leadership (see our profile on the group). It has expressed solidarity with Iran against the U.S. and displayed its approval of Hamas’s October 7 attacks by including an image glorifying a Hamas paraglider committing the attacks in an activism guide DD and some partners created.
Abuznaid indicated his approval of a Fourth of July Instagram post by DD that glorifies anti-American violence.[32]
The first slide says that the holiday celebrates when a “white nationalist state was born” and that DD pledges to “recommit to struggling towards the end of this empire.”
The other slides in the post justify anti-American violence. One ridicules Martin Luther King Jr.’s nonviolence. It grossly mischaracterizes his activism as being premised on a foolish belief that oppressors’ hearts will change if they see minorities suffering more.
DD condemns the U.S. for essentially being the greatest horror the world has ever known, accusing the U.S. of never having done anything positive for “our people.” It casts the country as “the enemy of freedom struggles all over the world” and even blames the U.S. for the bloodshed and despair of “our people” in Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.
Rather than celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, DD said it would instead celebrate themselves and their self-proclaimed “genius”:
If we celebrate anything today, it is the genius of our people’s resistance. We celebrate our people’s dreams of, and organizing towards, self-determination. We celebrate all people’s refusal to participate in the death cult that is American patriotism—a death cult that has never done anything good for our people, and that never will.
According to Canary Mission, Abuznaid publicly expressed support for terrorists almost two dozen times from 2012 to 2019. He also organized DD’s annual Palestine Delegation that met with extremists including those linked to PFLP and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.[33]
He tweeted in 2016, “Leila Khaled is a freedom fighter and she taught us how to fight.” Khaled is a PFLP terrorist who is known as the first female to oversee the successful hijacking of a plane.[34] He also took a photo with another PFLP terrorist, Rasmea Odeh, and gushed that she’s a “revolutionary bad ass.” [35]
Canary Mission reports that he boasted about how he and DD’s delegation met with a PFLP member named Ali Jiddah in 2015, who he called “a phenomenal brother who had spent 17 years in Israeli prisons for his acts of resistance.” [36]
Jiddah was arrested alongside his cousin, fellow PFLP terrorist Mahmoud, in 1968 for detonating explosives in Jerusalem that injured 22 people.[37] Mahmoud served as DD’s tour guide for their trip in 2016. They were released in 1985 as part of a deal between Israel and PFLP.[38]
US Palestinian Community Network[39]
USPCN declared after the October 7 attacks, “Our people are waging an anti-colonial, anti-occupation, and anti-Zionist liberation struggle!”[40]
Hatem Abudayyeh, the national chairman of USPCN, is also the executive director[41] of the Chicago-based Arab-American Action Network (AAAN).[42]
Abudayyeh’s said at a rally in July 2024:
[T]he vast majority of the world stands with Palestine and its right to self-defense and resistance in Gaza.
That the Palestinians and the Lebanese and the Yemenis and hundreds of millions of other Arabs in the region will continue to resist and ultimately defeat the US and Israeli war machines…
…Before South African apartheid was defeated, our international movement had built a consensus that South Africa had no right to exist as a racist, white supremacist, settler-colonialist, apartheid state. Today, there is the same worldwide consensus that Israel also has no right to exist as a racist, white supremacist, settler-colonialist, apartheid, Zionist state. It is on its last legs, as is the US empire.[43]
AAAN had a convicted PFLP terrorist, Rasmea Odeh, serving as its Associate Director until she was imprisoned in 2015 and deported back to Jordan in 2017 for lying about her involvement in terrorism on her application for citizenship. She is also the co-founder of AAAN’s Arab Women’s Committee.[44]
An Instagram post from September 2022 that was originally authored by USCPN and reposted by Mamas Activating Movements for Abolition and Solidarity (MAMAS) says Odeh is a “co-founder” of the organization.[45] Elsewhere, USCPN has only described her role in the group as that of founding member of its Chicago chapter. The 2022 post says:
Rasmea was a co-founder of USPCN & a mentor to many of our current members. She is still an extraordinary organizer & a living personification of all the elements of the Palestinian experience. A refugee twice over, a tortured political prisoner, a survivor of collective punishment, a women’s & refugee rights organizer, an elected member of the PLO’s Palestinian National Council, a brilliant analyst and thinker, & a legendary fighter for liberation, we will always remember her time with us & we wish her all the very best.
We say to Rasmea what Palestinians always say: “We will see you next year in a liberated Palestine!”[46]
Abudayyeh, who has a well-documented history of supporting terrorism, was one of at least 23 activists in Chicago and Minneapolis whose homes were raided or were issued subpoenas as part of a FBI counterterrorism investigation in 2010.[47]
The authorities believed they had strong evidence of providing material support to terrorist organizations, particularly PFLP and the Marxist-Leninist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Other reports indicated that law enforcement was also investigating links to Hamas and Hezbollah.[48] [49] One of the suspects being investigated said it seemed that the FBI’s case related to the activists’ links to the Palestinian Women’s Committees,[50] a front for PFLP.[51]
In addition to the groups led by Abudayyeh, the activists belonged[52] to FRSO,[53] the Minnesota Anti-War Committee (also known simply as the Anti-War Committee), Colombia Action Network, the Palestine Solidarity Group of Chicago, the National Committee to Free Ricardo Palmera (an imprisoned high-level FARC member), and FightBack! news media outlet, a FRSO entity[54] whose podcast Abudayyeh appeared on to glorify the vicious Hamas-led terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, that murdered around 1,200 Israelis and over 30 Americans.[55]
The activists stuck together and those who were subpoenaed refused to testify. Ultimately, no charges were filed.
USPCN is fiscally sponsored by the Westchester People’s Action Coalition (WESPAC) Foundation.[56]
Uptown for Palestine
Uptown for Palestine coauthored a collaborative post promoting an anti-American rally on the Fourth of July holiday in 2024.[57] It was co-authored with the pro-Hamas extremist groups, Within Our Lifetime, Bronx Antiwar Coalition, No Tech for Apartheid and Healthcare Workers for Palestine.[58]
The text aligns the authors with those “resisting” the U.S. in places like Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Kashmir, which means they are in alliance with the theocratic Iranian regime, the Iran-backed Assad dictatorship in Syria, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Pakistan-backed jihadist terrorists in Kashmir.
It then endorses a quote from so-called freedom fighter Leila Khaled, a PFLP terrorist who is best known as being the first woman to oversee the hijacking of an airplane, that calls for “strike[s]” against the U.S anywhere and everywhere. It reads:
As Palestine resists the most intense period of the U.S.-backed genocide since 1948, Congo, Syria, Sudan, Lebanon, Yemen, Haiti, Kashmir and countries all across the world continue to resist U.S. imperialism. July 4th is not a day to be celebrated while the U.S. wraps its hands around the necks of the world in the pursuit of hegemony, resources and exploitation. As Palestinian freedom fighter Leila Khaled explains, “Any strike anywhere against US imperialism is a step toward freedom.
Veterans for Peace, Minnesota Chapter 27
Veterans for Peace, Minnesota Chapter 27, endorsed an October 8 statement by the Anti-War Committee that legitimized the previous day’s attacks, criticized Senator Klobuchar’s description of its perpetrators as terrorists and announced that a protest would be held outside of her office the next day.[59]
The other endorsers of the statement were the Minnesota Peace Action Coalition, the SJP chapter at the University of Minnesota, AMP’s Minnesota chapter, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Minnesota BDS Community and Women Against Military Madness.
It stated:
On Saturday, Palestinian resistance fighters launched incursions into Israel-occupied territory outside the densely populated Gaza Strip. Footage showed Palestinian bulldozers demolishing the border fence built by Israel to contain Gaza after the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Palestinian-controlled enclave in 2005. In 2018, the Gaza border fence was the site of the Great March of Return protests, where hundreds of Palestinian refugees were killed and wounded by Israeli soldiers as they attempted to return to their homeland en masse.
…
“As long as apartheid Israel occupies Palestinian land, we should expect that Palestinians will resist and fight for the freedom of their nation by any means necessary,” said Wyatt Miller of the MN Anti-War Committee, the group initiating the call to action. “Peace can only be achieved through justice, yet the US continues to send billions in aid to prop up Israel’s unjust regime. It needs to stop.”
President Biden and politicians from both parties quickly pledged support for Israel in the wake of the fighting. Klobuchar, a strong supporter of US aid to Israel, characterized the Palestinian resistance forces as “terrorists.”
Note: The parent group, Veterans for Peace, was not added to this list of terror-tied groups because Chapter 27’s actions contradict the public statements of Veterans for Peace that condemn Hamas’s targeting of civilians.[60]
We Want Democracy
We Want Democracy cheered the October 7 attacks by posting a graphic of Palestinians celebrating the capturing of an apparent Israeli vehicle with the words “PALESTINE LIVES!!!” The post also announced it would hold an emergency rally the next day.[61]
It also endorsed the Philly Palestine Coalition’s statement that justified the October 7 and other terrorist attacks on Israel, equating the perpetrators with the Ukrainians defending their country from the Russian invasion:
The anticolonial, armed resistance out of the Gaza Strip was provoked by decades of Israeli state-sanctioned violence and to report otherwise is false and misleading.…
…
As people living under a 56-year occupation, Palestinians have every right to defend themselves, their land, their families, and to oppose the colonial violence they face from their occupier. This right to self defense is enshrined by international law in accordance with UN resolution A/RES/37/43 that states: Palestinians have the right to self determination and resistance “by all available means necessary, including armed struggle.”
To argue otherwise is to place a racist double standard on Palestinians’ struggle for liberation against their occupiers that is not placed on others resisting occupation (e.g. Ukrainians). To spin the narrative that “violence is not the answer” when it comes to Palestinian resistance is to completely disregard the decades of history in which nonviolent means of protest were tried and met by Israel with fatal military violence. [original emphasis][62]
Westchester People’s Action Coalition (WESPAC) Foundation[63]
WESPAC enables groups that support Hamas and its October 7 attacks to operate by acting as their fiscal sponsor.
WESPAC condemned the October 7 attacks while blaming Israel for having provoked them. It said:
The horrific acts of violence committed by Hamas inside Israel are crimes against humanity under international law and under anyone’s moral compass…
…The attack from Gaza has a context. It follows months and years and decades of constant violence, pogroms, expulsions and other manifestations of apartheid inflicted on Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
We do not condone attacks on civilians or violence of any kind. We do recognize its root causes in oppression, injustice and apartheid. We support without reservation all nonviolent resistance to apartheid and we refuse to be labeled as anti-Semitic for opposing Israel’s apartheid policies of supremacy and separation. The only solution, as it has always been, is to bring an end of apartheid, occupation, and siege, and promote a future based on justice, equality and human dignity for all.
We call for a change from unconditional US support for Israel to equitable support for both Palestinians and Israelis in their struggle for peace with justice.[64]
WESPAC is the fiscal sponsor for pro-Hamas, anti-American extremist groups including:
- Students for Justice in Palestine
- Within Our Lifetime
- Palestinian Youth Movement
- S. Palestinian Community Network
- Adalah-NY, which is now PAL-AWDA (a merger with Palestinian Assembly for Liberation)
- International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network
- Palestinian Feminist Collective
- Palestine Freedom Project
Although its Palestinian executive director Nada Khader condemned the October 7 attacks, the Anti-Defamation League[65] says:
In 2010, Khader, as a part of the Palestine Solidarity Caucus, attempted to shepherd through a standalone resolution denouncing the US federal government for labeling Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist organizations according to multiple reports at the time.[66]
WESPAC Board President Howard Horowitz is a member of Jewish Voice for Peace’s Westchester chapter.[67] He personally condemned Hamas’s October 7 attacks but believes that Israel is more at fault, notably describing the perpetrators as “fighters [who] broke out from the ghetto wall” (a comparison to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising) and not as terrorists:
October 7 was horrible and emotionally devastating…Even as I am horrified by the atrocities committed by Hamas, I believe it is important to understand why these Palestinian fighters broke out from the ghetto wall. My outrage at Hamas’s atrocities quickly gave way to my outrage as Israel announced and began the ongoing implementation of genocide.[68]
WESPAC has significant anomalies in its accounting.[69]
According to its 2022 tax form, WESPAC had about $2.4 million in revenue that tax year. Its form says the group spent about $1.5 million on “office supplies,” including $366,457 on “management and general expenses.” However, it reported that its leaders do not take a salary and it only has one part-time employee.[70]
There was no reported spending on travel, lodging, insurance, lawyers, or computers. Yet according to its public disclosure, WESPAC only distributed $37,777 to other organizations.
Similarly, in 2021, WESPAC raised over $1 million reported spending over $650,000 on “office supplies.”
Capital Research Center investigative researcher Patrick Thayer said:
Spending 82 percent of the budget on “office expenses” is highly suspicious behavior for a nonprofit that reports paying just one [part-time] employee while spending $0 on “occupancy.” WESPAC could be hiding any number of things under the umbrella “office expenses” and it absolutely warrants scrutiny from the relevant authorities.[71]
Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement
Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement reacted to the October 7 attacks by posting several articles endorsing them. It published an article that glorified the attacks as a “military counteroffensive against colonial oppression.”[72] It also posted a United National Antiwar Coalition statement that characterized the atrocities as a form of legitimate self-defense[73] and a statement[74] from the National Lawyers Guild that attempts to make a legal justification for Hamas’s terrorism.[75]
The group even posted a link to an official joint statement from an alliance of terrorist groups that includes Hamas, PFLP, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (a group that is separate from PFLP).[76] Another terrorist the group is fond of is Assata Shakur, a Marxist militant who fled to Cuba after murdering a police officer. The group produced a protest sign thanking Cuba for harboring her.[77]
The group also asserts that China’s communist system is better than America’s for workers.[78] It is also supportive of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, linking to an article that concludes, “Putin may not be an anti-imperialist leader, but the Russian military operation to ‘demilitarize and denazify’ Ukraine and recognize the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk [sic] People’s Republic is a move against imperialism, U.S. and NATO imperialism.”[79]
Wisconsin Coalition for Justice in Palestine
Wisconsin Coalition for Justice in Palestine is a bloc of over 60 groups that held a press conference on October 12 to release an official statement to “counter [the] false narrative about Israel’s war on Gaza” that Hamas is a terrorist group and the October 7 atrocities qualify as terrorist attacks. The coalition described the terrorism as legitimate “resistance.”[80]
It says: “Resistance to oppression is not terrorism…Palestinians are fighting for liberation, self-determination and their God given rights. Calling resistance ‘terrorism’ dehumanizes Palestinians.”
The statement does not condemn the attacks, targeting of Israeli civilians or Hamas. The most it would say is that it is “saddened” by the loss of Palestinian and Israeli life due to Israel’s “decades of provocation.”
The coalition then said that it is racist to describe Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups as violent or to view Israelis positively:
Racist depictions of Palestinians as “violent Muslims,” disregarding the significant Palestinian Christian population who are also suffering under Israel’s brutal rule, as well as portraying European Jews as civilized white people, is not new. It is the same model used for centuries by those who have colonized and ethnically cleansed indigenous peoples around the world.
The statement then parrots a historically potent anti-Semitic trope about Jews seeing themselves as genetically superior to other human beings:
There are some who believe that God prefers them over others and is functioning as a real estate broker to approve the violent takeover of Palestine. Whether they consider themselves superior because of their color or race or ethnicity, the results are the same: the brutal violation of human rights and the ethnic cleansing of an innocent Palestinian population.[81]
The coalition includes pro-Hamas groups like American Muslims for Palestine, Students for Justice in Palestine, Muslim American Society, Students for a Democratic Society, Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, National Lawyers Guild, Party for Socialism and Liberation, Trans Resistance Action Committee, U.S. Palestinian Community Network, and Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement.
Within Our Lifetime
WOL considers itself to be a part of a united front of terrorists and militias who are violently attacking Israel. It boasts on its website that the Israeli military forces in Gaza and the West Bank are being attacked by “by our people’s resistance forces and the forces mobilized by our siblings in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and around the world.”[82]
The group posted:
Supporting Palestinian liberation is supporting whatever means necessary it takes to get there…. we must defend the Palestinian right to resist zionist [sic] settler violence and support Palestinian resistance in all its forms. By any means necessary. With no exceptions and no fine print.[83]
WOL also supports acts of destruction that arguably qualify as acts of terrorism in the United States against Israel-associated targets.
It praises its “comrades” at the Mapping Project that created a hit list of Israel-linked sites for destructive targeting and the “actionists” at Palestine Action U.S. who attacked an Israel-associated business.[84]
WOL endorses a broader campaign of destruction in the U.S., saying:
Our duty as people here in the belly of the beast is to use all available means to support the Palestinian resistance and degrade the capabilities of the United States to wage war not just on Palestine but on oppressed people all over the globe.
WOL held an anti-American rally on July 4, 2024. Its post endorses a quote from so-called freedom fighter Leila Khaled, a PFLP terrorist who is best known as being the first woman to oversee the hijacking of an airplane, that calls for “strike[s]” against the U.S anywhere and everywhere.
As Palestinian freedom fighter Leila Khaled explains, “Any strike anywhere against US imperialism is a step towards freedom.[85]
WOL is fiscally sponsored by the Westchester People’s Action Coalition (WESPAC) Foundation.[86]
Women Against Military Madness
Women Against Military Madness endorsed an October 8 statement by the Anti-War Committee that legitimized the previous day’s attacks, criticized Senator Klobuchar’s description of its perpetrators as terrorists and announced that a protest would be held outside of her office the next day.[87]
The other endorsers of the statement were the Minnesota Peace Action Coalition, the SJP chapter at the University of Minnesota, AMP’s Minnesota chapter, Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Minnesota BDS Community and Veterans for Peace Chapter 27.
It needs to stop.”
President Biden and politicians from both parties quickly pledged support for Israel in the wake of the fighting. Klobuchar, a strong supporter of US aid to Israel, characterized the Palestinian resistance forces as “terrorists.”
Workers’ Voice
Workers’ Voice endorsed the Philly Palestine Coalition’s statement that justified the October 7 and other terrorist attacks on Israel, equating the perpetrators with the Ukrainians defending their country from the Russian invasion:
The anticolonial, armed resistance out of the Gaza Strip was provoked by decades of Israeli state-sanctioned violence and to report otherwise is false and misleading.…
…
As people living under a 56-year occupation, Palestinians have every right to defend themselves, their land, their families, and to oppose the colonial violence they face from their occupier. To spin the narrative that “violence is not the answer” when it comes to Palestinian resistance is to completely disregard the decades of history in which nonviolent means of protest were tried and met by Israel with fatal military violence.”[88]
Workers’ World Party (WWP), which describes itself as “a revolutionary Marxist-Leninist party,”[90] praised the October 7 attacks as “a heroic example for people longing for liberation from imperialism around the world” that was “as inevitable as it was justifiable.” It further characterized Israel as a “white supremacist Zionist state.”[91]
The communist group said, “The Palestinian movement and people have every right to strike back in whatever way they choose” and “the Palestinian organizations know that they face a ruthless enemy and have decided to launch a direct strike on that enemy.”
It also expressed solidarity with the government of Iran and its direct attack on Israel and regurgitated Iranian propaganda claiming that the attack was a resounding success. WWP said:
Iran exercise[d] its inherent right under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter to directly respond to Israel’s attack on their sovereignty.
Iran even warned the world of its pending action for days, including informing the countries Iranian drones would fly over. Only then did Iran take direct action, targeting multiple Israeli military bases.
Israel and the U.S. claim their militaries intercepted almost all of the hundreds of drones Iran fired and there was little to no damage. But both Israeli and U.S. military and government officials are known serial liars, capable of creating any scenario that serves their interests. These regimes are fully confident that the imperialist-controlled media, including the New York Times, Washington Post and the West European corporate media, will report any story they are fed by the Pentagon or the Israeli regime as if it were true.
…
As part of the axis of resistance to Israel and world imperialism, Iran has every right to provide weapons to those fighting for liberation.
…
Iran’s defensive response on April 13 marks the first time Iran responded directly to an imperialist attack on its territory. Iranian leaders have shown they have the capability to hit back should Israel again commit aggression against Iran. The unprecedented global solidarity for the liberation of Palestine since the Al-Aqsa Flood of October 7 has awakened a worldwide appreciation that Iran’s role in the axis of resistance is one of solidarity with the embattled and oppressed people of Palestine.[92]
WWP even goes so far as to publish official statements from Hamas and PFLP in its official publication.[93]
Writers Against the War on Gaza
Writers Against the War on Gaza (WAWOG) supports Hamas and its attacks on Israel and has expressed anti-Americanism, including denouncing the Fourth of July holiday.
WAWOG promoted Hamas’s official 17-page booklet about its October 7, 2023, atrocities, linking to the material in a post that refers to Hamas as “the Palestinian resistance.”[94]
It ridiculed PEN America for calling the October 7 atrocities a “terrorist attack,”[95] defending the violence as “a defense of a mosque, a land, a people suffering under decades of brutal occupation.”[96] It also decried characterizations of Hamas’s rocket attacks on Tel Aviv as terrorist attacks in May 2024, saying they are “a military response.”[97]
The group compared terrorists attacking Israel to Native Americans resisting genocide, saying “’terrorists’ is the 21st century version of ‘savages.’”[98] It mocked a drawing that showed female Israeli soldiers crying.[99]
The group reacted to Israel’s killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh by reposting a pro-terrorism activist’s statement calling him a “martyr.”[100] It also reposted a quote from PFLP spokesman Ghassan Kanafani that “Bodies fall, not ideas,” followed by the comment of “Resistance is an idea, and ideas never die.”[101]
WAWOG celebrated the birthday of the founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine Marxist-Leninist terrorist group, posting a graphic that calls him an “architect of resistance.”[102] It also recommended his book.[103]
The group’s Philadelphia chapter features Kanafani’s book on its list of recommended links[104] and studies Khanafani’s literature, with his book selected for their monthly reading group in August 2024.[105] It also cites PFLP’s training of Black Panther extremists as a model for “solidarity between the Black and Palestinian liberation movements,” complimenting how “in the late 70s, the anti-imperialist factions in these movements found ways to support each other.”[106]
The history of solidarity between the Black and Palestinian liberation movements is a long one, from the 1973 Dodge strike against UAW purchase of Israeli bonds which inspired the Dodge Revolutionary Union Movement to the training which the Panthers received from the PFLP in the late 60s, the anti-imperialist factions in these movements found ways to support each other.”
The Philadelphia chapter coauthored an Instagram post promoting an anti-American rally on the Fourth of July in 2024 organized by the Philly Palestine Coalition.[107] The stated purpose of the event was to “rally against the war machine from within!”[108] and “Rally for Resistance! Support Palestine Not Amerikkka!”[109]
The first slide in the post has artwork of an American flag shape filled with skulls and bombs with text vowing to “free” a long list of countries and territories from the U.S.
The list includes Hawaii and Turtle Island. Their inclusion means that the Philly Palestine Coalition seeks the secession of Hawaii as a U.S. state and an end to the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the Central American countries.
Foreign places where the coalition is rooting for U.S. defeat is Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, and obviously Palestine.
That means that the “resistance” the coalition is rallying for is Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, PFLP, Hezbollah, the Iran-allied dictatorship of Bashar Assad in Syria, the theocracy of Iran, the Houthis, the Taliban (which remains joined at the hip with Al-Qaeda), the anti-India terrorists in Kashmir who are backed by Pakistan, and the Haitian criminal gangs.
WAWOG coauthored an anti-American Fourth of July Instagram post that said:
THIS JULY 4TH, CALL THE U.S. WHAT IT IS: THE ENGINE OF GLOBAL IMPERIALISM
We reject the “independence day” of a blood soaked empire.
The slides accuse the U.S. of killing over 680,000 Iraqis with an image depicting U.S. troops as murderous and abusive, implying that the purported casualty count is solely the result of a merciless, psychopathic American killing spree. It also claims that U.S. forces looted and burned over 1 million Iraqi artifacts, books, and manuscripts.
The other slides demonize the U.S. for the Korean War, which was started by North Korea trying to conquer South Korea; the Vietnam War, which was started by the communist North Vietnamese trying to conquer South Vietnam; and the trade embargo on Cuba, which was instituted to try to influence and avoid empowering a communist anti-American dictatorship only 90 miles away from Florida.
Most ridiculously, the post villainizes U.S. involvement in delivering humanitarian aid to starving civilians in Somalia and its narrowly targeting Al-Qaeda’s Somali-murdering branch there.
The group wrote sympathetically about pro-Hamas protesters reportedly lighting a police bus on fire in Brooklyn in May 2024. It posted a screenshot of a message about the attack that calls for future acts of arson targeting police vehicles and businesses that are “genocide-funding”:
The NYPD are violent suffocators of the people’s voice and will. They are terrorizers of the homeless in our streets, and are in concert with the genocidal IDF [Israel Defense Forces], who train them to better butcher our freedom. They do it all with no consequences in their future and no fear in their faces—we can change that with fire. There are cop cars and genocide-funding businesses all over. From Cop Country to Gaza. GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA![110]
In another post featuring the statement, WAWOG wrote, “As the actionists note here, burning an NYPD bus was also retaliation for Cop City, which the federal government hopes to replicate across the US.” It is referring to the “Stop Cop City” effort in Georgia that opposes the construction of a large law enforcement training facility. Dozens of anarchist terrorists have been arrested for trying to prevent it through arson, property damage, and violence targeting utility workers and police.[111]
WAWOG has tried to help protesters who are arrested for apparently breaking laws by telling them to “erase your tracks” if you know someone who has been arrested by pulling the arrestee from their encrypted Signal tracks so the police cannot see their communications if they review the phone’s contents.”[112]
Yalies4Palestine
Yalies4Palestine immediately reacted to the October 7 attacks by announcing that it would hold a protest honoring them and supporting the Palestinian resistance the very next day. It said:
Palestinians made history this Saturday morning when they broke down the wall which has imprisoned Gaza for 17 years.
For the past two decades, millions of Palestinians have lived in the open-air prison that is Gaza, where they have suffered a land, sea, and air blockade that restricts movement and amounts to collective punishment and blatantly violates international law. The events of October 7th are not an isolated event but the inevitable outcome of a decades-long apartheid and suffocating blockade, in addition to a year of escalated settler violence against civilians in the West Bank.
…
The word ‘intifada’ in Arabic means ‘to shake off.’ After suffering under the settler colonial regime for generations, the Palestinian people are fighting to shake off the grip of the Zionist occupation and reclaim their country and homeland. We are now witnessing the Intifada enter a new stage as the era of Oslo comes to an end, facilitated by increased colonial repression at the hands of the Zionist entity and its international allies.
Yalies4Palestine and the undersigned organizations stand in unwavering support of the Palestinian people’s right to resist colonization and return to their land. Previous peaceful acts of resistance through boycotts, strikes, and non-violent protests have only ever met with criminalization, repression, and murder. Breaking out of a prison requires force, not desperate appeals to the colonizer or the “international community” which has maintained the status quo as long as it is Palestinians paying the price. We stand with all colonized people fighting for their liberation from Palestine, to Armenia, to Kashmir, to Turtle Island, and beyond.”[113]
The “Turtle Island” term refers to the U.S. and is a way of saying that the country is an illegitimate state that is occupying the native population’s land and doesn’t have a right to exist.
Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research
The President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, Omar Suleiman, is one of the most influential imams in the country. He indirectly justified Hamas’s attacks by referring to “the current escalation of Israeli aggression and Palestinian resistance.”[114]
The Research Director of Islam and Society at Suleiman’s Yaqeen Institute, Imam Tom Facchine, preached, “We’re with the Palestinian resistance, one hundred percent. No ifs, no ands, no buts. No equivocations, no apologies, no condemnation.”[115]
