Happy Bi Visibility Day
Do you enjoy having sexual perversion relentlessly shoved in your face by crybullies? If so, this is one of your many lucky days — specifically, Bi Visibility Day:
The date highlights bisexuality and the challenges posed by biphobia and bisexual erasure, as well as celebrating the work of a growing number of local, national and international organisations around the world which champion bisexual visibility and equality.
Those who engage in bisexual perversion are not only victims of biphobia but subject to the existential threat of erasure. Let’s hope they don’t resort to violence like so many of their LGBT colleagues in the transgender community.
In honor of today’s specialness,
A host of public buildings around the world fly the pink, purple and blue bisexual flag, and many business LGBT staff networks host specially themed meetings.
Jen Yockney is aggressively bisexual. She educates the unenlightened:
“In the 1990s bi was often seen as a kind of ‘gay lite’ with the assumption bi people were less impacted by legal and social discrimination than gay and lesbian people. But research increasingly shows bi people have greater mental and physical health challenges than gay or straight people. We’re more likely to experience domestic violence from our partners, too. And bi people have lower earnings than their straight and gay co-workers.”
Clearly the government must step in to ensure pay equity for bisexuals. In the meantime, weep for their plight as you fly the flag of pink, purple, and blue.
Bisexuals are not the only LGBTers in need of ever more visibility. Don’t forget to mark the following on your calendar:
• Ace Week (last full week in October)
• Agender Pride Day (May 19)
• Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week (February 14)
• Aromantic Visibility Day (June 5)
• Asexual Awareness Week (last full week in October)

• Trans Awareness Month (November)
• Trans Awareness Week (second week of November)
• Transgender Day of Remembrance (November 20)

So long as there are still a few days that have not been devoted to celebrating sexual deviance, the Alphabet People will continue to suffer from erasure by being denied the visibility they so urgently require.
