Frontrunning for the ages: Bernie-backed Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner handed the Pod Save America bros a video of himself running around in his underwear at a wedding in order to get in front of what the pod bros described as a piece of “opposition research.”

That’s one way to describe the Nazi tattoo Platner has on his chest. Pod bro Tommy Vietor nodded along as Platner explained that he had gotten the ink while drunk in Croatia and had no idea—for, like, many many years—what his “Totenkopf” symbolized. (A former acquaintance told Jewish Insider Platner knew exactly what he had inked on his chest. Crazy, I know.)

Anyhow, the Pod Save America bro Vietor was there to give Platner a soft landing. Flashback to last year when Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s tattoo of a Jerusalem cross was a “dog whistle” for white nationalism.

“Recruitment—are they just going to go off and recruit MAGA people?” Pod bro Ben Rhodes asked of the U.S. military under Hegseth in a November 2024 episode. “Are they going to go off and recruit white nationalists? And I don’t say this just because the guy has a tattoo, but that’s kind of who they’re kind of putting out the Bat-Signal to.”

Bernie Sanders is also unbothered by Platner’s ink. The Vermont socialist described Platner as an “excellent candidate” after images of the tattoo went viral. “We don’t have enough candidates in this country that will take on the powers that be and fight for the working class.”

Platner’s former political director, former Democratic state representative Genevieve McDonald, sees things differently: “Graham has an anti-Semitic tattoo on his chest,” she wrote in a Facebook post. “He’s not an idiot, he’s a military history buff. We cannot be this painfully stupid.”
