Defending a brutal narco-dictator isn’t a lapse for today’s Democrats—it’s a revelation of who they are. When Nicolás Maduro was captured, Democrat leaders didn’t hesitate to rush to his defense, even though he stole an election, runs a criminal state, and partnered with Hezbollah in the Western Hemisphere. Senator Chris Murphy tried to attack Donald Trump for removing Maduro—until CNN confronted him with his own past op-ed calling for Maduro’s ouster. The embarrassment wasn’t hypocrisy; it was exposure.

Democrats aren’t confused; they’re consistent. A party that spent the last year attempting to delegitimize the 2024 U.S. election has no moral standing to invoke “democracy” abroad. In fact, Maduro represents the governing ethos they increasingly tolerate: cling to power regardless of votes, criminalize opposition, control the media, and align with America’s enemies when useful.
