LOL: Virginia Looks To Bar ICE From Arresting Illegals In “Public Spaces”
It’s so cute that they think they can do this
Bills limiting ICE cooperation, barring immigration arrests in public spaces clear General Assembly
A slate of bills aimed at reining in law enforcement involvement in federal immigration activities is now headed to Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s desk.
Bills that advocates said would bring accountability, oversight and transparency to how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operates in Virginia cleared the General Assembly as the 2026 session wrapped on Saturday, March 14.
Among them are measures that limit agencies’ cooperation with ICE, prohibit immigration-related arrests in certain public spaces and bar officers from wearing facial coverings during official duties.
Senate Bill 351 and House Bill 650 have passed both chambers. Under the bills, ICE agents cannot make arrests at courthouses, hospitals, schools, commonwealth attorneys’ offices or near polling places without identification, a reason for entry and a judicial warrant.
Both bills also stipulate that local law enforcement or security personnel cannot knowingly allow ICE agents to enter the courthouse without a warrant, which must be reviewed and confirmed as authentic. Similar guardrails also apply to other state-owned facilities, hospitals and higher education institutions.
Yeah, they don’t have the power to limit federal law enforcement, and, they are putting their own state officers in quite a pickle, choosing keeping their job or getting arrested for obstruction of federal law enforcement.
Lawmakers approved two measures prohibiting state and local law enforcement officers from wearing face masks while performing their official duties except under specific circumstances, such as protection against disease, infection or exposure to toxic substances. Officers assigned to a special weapons and tactics team that requires facial coverings as part of its official duties are also exempt.
Well, at least they weren’t stupid enough to think they could block federal law enforcement, but, I bet they slip it in. Meanwhile
‘Climate of fear’: Student enrollment declining amid Trump’s immigration crackdown
FOR MONTHS, school district leaders in cities with high immigrant populations have been sounding the alarm over student enrollment drops some say are due to amplified federal immigration enforcement.
Overall, public schools across Massachusetts — which has become a target of President Trump’s crackdown on immigration — lost over 15,000 students from fall 2024 to fall 2025, according to state data released in January. That brings total enrollment in the state to its lowest level in over three decades.
So, the state can spend the money on American children, and they’ll have fewer students in their classes? Great! Plus, their education won’t be stunted due to all the non-English speakers in their classes.
Contributor: As an immigrant, I’m safer in San Quentin than if paroled – Los Angeles Times
Three decades ago, I was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole in California. A lost, scared teenager, I found myself in a maximum-security prison: Pelican Bay Security Housing Unit. Stuck behind the cubic holes of a metal door, I was one of the many thousands of men sent to solitary confinement. Whenever I was taken out of the cell, my every movement was meticulously monitored. Two officers locked chains around my waist and irons on my ankles.
In these small corridors of eight cells per pod, I was taken away from the world and surrounded by a violent prison culture. Anxiety consumed me. In the abyss of isolation, my only human connections were my next-door neighbors. (snip)
All incarcerated people are apprehensive about transition to the outside world. But in my case, the prospects are so daunting that I am no longer even seeking parole. If I were freed, I would go straight into the arms of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
His brother also did 32 years in California jail, and, when paroled, was immediately deported. You know what’s missing from the LA Times piece? What Edwin E. Chavez did was commit a gang related attempted murder, same as his brother. Matter of fact, his other two brothers did serious time in jail. Anyhow, the lengths that the Credentialed Media will go to create sympathy for illegals is f’ing amazing.
