First graders at Olney Elementary School were reportedly exposed at a school event to political symbols and messaging that many Jewish families see as antisemitic, and Montgomery County Public Schools, a large public school district headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, must be forced to answer for it.

According to the incident materials provided, photographs posted on March 21, 2026, showed an Olney Elementary international fair display featuring a “Free Palestine” bracelet, political stickers, a keffiyeh, and a map presentation that erased the Jewish historical connection to Israel — all in a setting involving very young children at a taxpayer-funded public school.

This is political indoctrination aimed at first graders.

It did not happen in a vacuum. MCPS has already faced national scrutiny over antisemitism, including a May 8, 2024, congressional hearing where its leadership was pressed on anti-Jewish incidents in the district.

Federal officials also list Montgomery County Public Schools among institutions under an open shared ancestry Title VI investigation, showing the issue is already on the government’s radar.

Federal civil rights law is clear. The U.S. Department of Education says Title VI protects Jewish students from discrimination based on shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics.

Executive Order 13899 reinforced the use of the IHRA definition in evaluating antisemitism claims, and Executive Order 14188 directed agencies to use all available tools to combat antisemitism in education settings. The silence is deafening, and we cannot let this slide.

Jewish communities across America are demanding stronger enforcement, not excuses.

Recent reporting and advocacy from Jewish organizations show that antisemitism in education remains a live and urgent fight, and institutions respond when public pressure becomes impossible to ignore.
