Determined to get their own kind of justice, an unrecognized African nation offered a one-word offer to the United States in response to Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D) alleged fraud.

Last week, Vice President J.D. Vance kicked off his responsibilities leading President Donald Trump’s new anti-fraud task force. With eyes on Minnesota, especially its Somali community, calls for Omar’s deportation after she was said to have “definitely” committed immigration fraud found the Republic of Somaliland posing a different option: “Extradition?”

Not long after Benny Johnson shared Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt’s reporting on the podcaster’s interview with the vice president, adding the caption that “Ilhan needs to be deported,” the partially recognized state in the Horn of Africa, claimed but not controlled by Somalia, wrote in response via its X account, “Deportation? As had been reported, Vance had expressed favor for the Justice Department to “go after” Omar, telling Johnson, “So we actually think that Ilhan Omar definitely committed immigration fraud against the United States of America … We’re trying to look at what the remedies are. That’s the thing that we’re trying to figure out is what are the legal remedies now that we know that she’s committed immigration fraud? How do you go after her? How do you investigate her? How do you actually do the thing? How do you build the case necessary to get some justice for the American people? There’s a related issue, Benny, which is she has been at the center of a lot of the worst fraudsters in the Somali community.”

Days before the Vance interview, Somaliland had tagged the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the White House with the question “Extradition?” after offering “Receipts: Ilhan Omar’s last name was Elmi before it was changed. This evidence was available, but the Obama Justice Department refused to investigate.”

“Her brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and their father, Nur Said Elmi (also known as Nur Omar), used multiple names across different countries,” continued the African state. “Part of the family fled to the United Kingdom, while Ilhan Omar and others entered the United States under their father’s assumed name, ‘Omar.’ These name changes and split identities were used to conceal the fathers’ true war crimes and identity.”

Somaliland contends that Omar’s father participated in the Isaaq Genocide under Somali dictator Siad Barre in the late ’80s when an estimated 50,000 to 200,000 civilians were massacred in the territory.
