Converse Ad Outrage Gets Still More Absurd
The brouhaha over the allegedly white supremacist Converse ad is even more absurd than we knew. Not only did it feature a very non-Caucasian Korean woman, but as Not the Bee laughs, Rodney Rambo — Converse’s Global Chief Marketing Officer (previously Vice President of North America Brand Marketing), who oversaw the ad’s development — is black.
During the ad, the K-pop star was shown standing under the light of a star-shaped spotlight while holding a pair of black high-top sneakers. She was wearing a calf-length white skirt.
The ad went viral, with many social media users finding the imagery racist.
Some users said that the spotlight lighting featured in the ad created an outline that resembled the shape of a Ku Klux Klan hood. Other users thought that the way Karina held the pair of shoes resembled lynching imagery.
Converse execs still exploited the fabricated scandal as an opportunity to grovel and beg forgiveness. Nonetheless, moonbats are now boycotting Converse.
