MY MINI-BIO:

My father was in the Korean War. He was a lineman for a US Army Signal Corp. When it was close to time for his tour to end, he was sent to Schofield Barracks. Schofield Barracks was established in 1908. The barracks is located in Honolulu and is in the Wahiawa District of the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. I asked my dad if Schofield Barracks is haunted. His answer: “I heard many stories”. I would imagine that Schofield Barracks would be very haunted. The barracks faced the horror of the bombing of Pearl Harbor where 2,043 service men and civilians died.

Beverly Shintaku, former operations officer, U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii says: “Some people don’t believe it and they won’t until it happens to them.” Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield received a lot of damage during the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941. Many ghosts of the soldiers that were killed roam the bases. PFC Michael Jacque who was stationed at Schofield in 1981 says that he saw three apparitions of soldiers that were bleeding profusely. They were ducking, as if they were under attack. Jacque thinking they were real flesh and blood human beings approached them to see if they needed help. Jacque was shocked to see them vanish. Present day military personnel hear whispering voices, mumbling voices, disembodied footsteps, laughter, crying, sobbing, screaming. Numerous military personnel have made claim that they have seen ghosts, heard the sounds of ghosts and witnessed strange paranormal activity. SP4 Thomas O’Reilly with the Hawaii Air National Guard came across an apparition of a soldier laying on the ground, with his intestines streaming out of his stomach. The apparition slowing faded away into nothingness.

A very scary place to stay at is E Quad at Schofield Barracks. The story goes that a soldier staying at E Quad committed suicide. He had 13 stab wounds to his stomach. Special Note: Even though the circumstances were suspicious, it was still ruled as a suicide. There was blood splattered everywhere. To this day, this suicide victim is now a ghost, and he goes around whispering in some of the soldier’s ears. He whispers: “go kill yourself.” The cemetery is close by to Schofield and because of that appliances go off and on, doors will open and close on their own accord. Garrison Headquarters moved to Building 106 in 2006. After the move, everything seemed normal for a while. The soldiers heard all kinds of ghostly tales about Building 106 and they just laughed it off.

Then this happened: On one particular day, at 6:30 p.m., the sun was setting. Employee Shintaku and one other employee remained in the building. Shintaku got goosebumps as she was walking down a dark hallway to the copy machine. Shintaku heard a man’s deep voice. She was unable to make out the words. Then she heard disembodied footsteps. Shintaku freaked out, grabbed her stuff and ran back to her office, where she felt safe. She later learned that people have died in Building 106. Some of the things that she witnessed in Building 106 are: lights turning on and off, computer systems secured with locks becoming unplugged, and coins dropping, seemingly out of nowhere. Cold spots and cold breezes will come out of nowhere. Shintaku at times hears whispering in her ears. DPW blueprints show unexcavated land beneath the building, confirming Shintaku’s suspicion of bodies buried under the building as well.

A soldier named Andrew was killed in Building 108 on Wheeler during the attack on Oahu, Dec. 7, 1941. Many employees working in the building have reported hearing footsteps and doors opening and closing at night. Similar experiences also have occurred in Building 105. Schofield Barracks E and J quads have reported mumbling voices and strange laughter. Some soldiers feel there is a demonic presence in these quads. Other hauntings are at Fort Shafter’s Building 405. Shadow people have been seen, along with darting shadows that are seen with your peripheral vision. Night Marchers (ghosts) are heard crossing the campus at night at The Big Island’s Kilauea Military Camp. Legend has it that the Night Marchers are ancient Hawaiian warriors. Schofield Barracks apparently has a lot of paranormal activity, and the reports just keep on coming in. My dad must have heard a lot of stories.
