Danish King’s Garden
When visiting paranormal spots in Estonia, one of the most haunted places is the Danish King’s Garden. They say that this is possibly the most haunted place in Tallinn. The Danish King’s Garden is situated on the slope facing St. Nicholas Church. When you arrive, you will see an ominous sculpture of 3 monks. The sculpture looks even more menacing when seen at night and eerie night lights shine upon the 3 monks. The sculpture represents the many ecclesiastical specters that legend says haunts the city after dark. The garden and 3 towers have 4 specters that haunt the grounds. They are:

1. Spitfire: Spitfire is the first entity. Spitfire is a large black dog that can spit out balls of fire according to locals. The locals believe Spitfire came from the bowels of Hell. A tourist claims that he encountered the beastly dog, and it spit out a ball of fire and caught his pants leg on fire.

2. The Wandering Monk: The Wandering Monk is seen walking around the garden. He seems lost and confused. There have been times in which he has actually shoulder bumped one of the locals or tourists. A tourist who got bumped by the Wandering Monk said…”excuse me!” out loud. The monk looked at him and then disappeared.

3. Ilus Naine: Ilus Naine in Estonian means “pretty lady”. Ilus Naine is seen walking by the 3 towers and also wanders around the garden. Ilus Naine will stop at the flowers to smell them. She always wears an old-fashioned dress. She will fade away into nothingness after smelling a flower, with a big smile on her face.

4. The Witch of the Three Towers: Legend has it that a witch that dabbled in alchemy during medieval times was caught and executed by beheading. It was said she was trying to find immortality via alchemy. The witch can be seen on top of one of the 3 towers. She is known to swoop down on locals and tourists and when she reaches her victim, she will just vanish. After she vanishes, you will hear a horrifying laughter.

The Stable Tower
One of the most frightening places to visit is the Stable Tower. The Stable Tower is part of the city’s medieval wall, it’s very close to the Danish King’s Garden. The Stable Tower was used as a prison, where many prisoners were tortured, starved to death, whipped and most would face an agonizing death. The Stable Tower Ghosts are terrifying when encountered. In the 16th century, a young man who was imprisoned with his servant, was locked in a round tower. The next morning after being incarcerated, the pair were as white as a ghost. They were unable to speak, but through sign language were able to communicate that they encountered The Stable Tower Ghosts. A prison guard who laughed at their claim, took it upon himself to prove the ghosts didn’t exist by spending a night in the tower. The following morning, he was discovered shaking and unable to mutter a word. He died a few days later without telling the officials on what he had seen. When he died, his eyes were as big as saucers, his mouth was wide open, as if he was trying to scream. Then if this tower wasn’t bad enough, you have the third of Tallinn’s most haunted towers. The Short Leg Tower is jam-packed with ghosts, including a monk-like figure who goes by the name of Justus. According to a psychic who claims to know the story, Justus was once the town executioner and had been condemned to haunt the tower until he can atone for his sins. Other mysterious goings-on include the visage of a man appearing on the tower’s walls. His face will protrude from the wall. His face will look angry. This specter is known as “The Face on the Wall”. You also have the specter of a ship that sails across the room. Tourists and locals have heard knocking sounds and have seen objects moving on their own. No one has an answer on why a ghostly ship is sometimes seen crossing the room at the tower.

Toom-Kooli 13
Currently the home of the Canadian Embassy, Toom-Kooli was long ago owned by the wealthy von Uexküll family. The men of the family had a less than chivalric reputation with young women. Two women are said to haunt the building to the present day, one dressed in grey and the other dressed in black. They are known as the Grey Lady and The Lady in Black. The Grey Lady was once a beautiful maid working for the family. She was unfortunate enough to attract the lord, who forced her to become his lover. When he became bored of the maid, he had her walled up in the basement. Those who have encountered the Grey Lady in this haunted building say she smells like death, cackles insanely, and uses her long raggedy nails to torment young men. Many young men have complained about being scratched by the Grey Lady. An English officer visiting the residence at the end of World War 1, was decommissioned from the service, because he went mad after encountering the dreaded Grey Lady. The Lady in Black of Toom-Kooli was once a girl from the country who fell in love with the lord’s son. The feelings were reciprocated, and the pair were to be married. However, the family was not pleased with the boy marrying someone that was beneath him. On the morning the nuptials were due to take place, the girl was nowhere to be found. It is alleged that she was murdered by the lord and buried in the basement. To this day, she haunts the building halls looking for her love.
