The year was 1972. The location was Oceana High School in Pacifica, CA. There was a group of high school kids that I went to school with, known as the Thick Fog Grave Robbers. They had a reputation of burglarizing homes in San Bruno, San Mateo, Daly City and Pacifica. They were also known for robbing graves. I learned that this group was ransacking graves at the Daly City Chinese Cemetery. They would commit their crimes in the cemetery when it was night and usually when the fog rolled in. They targeted Chinese graves, because it was known that the families of the deceased would throw in jewelry and money into the graves. Things got so bad at the cemetery an article was written about the grave robbing in the San Francisco Examiner. I knew who the robbers were, but kept my mouth shut, because snitches get stitches. I didn’t want to wind up as a casualty of this grave robbing group of boys. Their grave robbing got them in trouble with restless spirits. They mentioned that on one of their escapades at the cemetery, they saw blue orbs flying about, going from grave to grave. They could see the blue orbs with their eyes. When the robbers got back home, they all experienced negative outcomes. There were 3 robbers. The first one got into a very bad fight in school, in which he landed in the hospital. The 2nd robber got pneumonia and had to go to emergency, because he had a hard time breathing. The 3rd one almost overdosed on heroin. He later was caught with stolen goods and spent a few days in jail. The 2nd robber returned the stolen items that he had to the cemetery and reburied the stolen merchandise. Things went back to normal for this robber, while the other two robbers had misfortune after misfortune.

When I was a newspaper boy for the San Francisco Chronicle and San Francisco Examiner, our boss Rick Pereira would drive us around all over the bay area to sell subscriptions. Rick and a few other bay area people that I have met, told me a story about the Daly City Chinese Cemetery. A story that Rick and many others believe is true. I first heard the story from Rick. Rick told me that in 1962 a couple parked their car in a secluded part of the Chinese cemetery, so they could make out. The girl in the car, saw a flashing blue light. She thought it could be the police and told her boyfriend what she saw. Her boyfriend went to investigate, and he was gone for a while. Then she saw her boyfriend running to the car and he was yelling…”we need to get out of here!” He claimed that he witnessed a UFO landing on the cemetery grounds. When he pulled out of the cemetery, a hairy ape-like creature was on top of the gate and jumped on his car. He claimed it was like a baby monkey or even a baby Bigfoot.

Other stories about this cemetery are that an elderly Asian woman (ghost) is seen hysterically sobbing by a grave. She is kneeled down crying and has a slight hunch back. If you approach her to ask her if she is okay, she will look at you with a stern look and then vanish. Visitors to this cemetery have experienced seeing shadow people darting around by the graves. A gnarly looking female hand has been seen reaching out from the grave. Disembodied whispers that sound like full conversations have been heard in the cemetery. Some visitors have experienced anxiety while walking around the cemetery. Some visitors have even felt hot flashes and felt they were going to pass out. When they leave the cemetery, everything goes back to normal. When I investigated this cemetery, two of my investigators saw a white mist move from one grave site to another grave site. One of my investigators captured an EVP of a man talking Mandarin. One of our Chinese investigators claim that the EVP words that were recorded said: “you don’t belong here.” The Daly City Cemetery is one of the most haunted cemeteries in California.
