Solomon Islands:
The Solomon Islands are often said to be haunted, with numerous stories and legends about supernatural occurrences and ghostly encounters. These stories are prevalent throughout the Pacific Islands and are often passed down through generations via oral storytelling. There are stories of “war ghosts”. Many stories center around the ghosts of World War II, particularly from battles fought on islands like Guadalcanal. Sailors have made claim that they have seen phantom battles on some of the islands.

The Solomon Islands even has its own cryptid. That cryptid is known as the Kakamora. The Kakamora are a legendary, short-statured people of the Solomon Islands. Somewhat like the Menehune of Hawaii. Legend has it that the Kakamora in ancient times was an extraterrestrial scouting party that got stranded on Solomon Islands. Some of the Kakamora left the islands and became the Menehune that are said to live on the islands of Hawaii. The Kakamora are very elusive and hide in the dense jungles of the Solomon Islands. There are stories of sorcery being performed at the islands, and reports of terrifying, shape-changing ancestral spirits.

A mythical island called Teonimenu once existed and then one day it just vanished. There is scientific evidence suggesting that an island did indeed disappear suddenly. Teonimenu is similar to Hy-Brasil. Hy-Brasil vanished off the coast of Ireland. It’s a phantom island featured in Irish folklore and was often depicted on maps as a separate landmass west of Ireland. Legends described it as a land of paradise or a realm of the gods, visible only for a single day every seven years. Some ancient alien theorists believe that Teonimenu and Hy-Brasil may have been aerial spaceships that were parked in the ocean. The people of Ireland and the people of Solomon Islands thought these 2 land masses were islands, when in fact they were extraterrestrial spaceships that flew off and returned to the heavens. As for ghosts at the Solomon Islands, you will find plenty.  Ghosts are believed to roam freely in various locations, including high isles and low reef atolls.

Milford Sound, New Zealand
The area does have a rich history and folklore that includes a legend about a hero named Maui and a mourning bird, the piopio. This legend, combined with the dramatic and sometimes eerie scenery, can contribute to a sense of mystery and intrigue, leading some to perceive the area as having a “haunting” quality. A Reddit user stated: “Milford Sound as the darkest place the poster has ever been, and that the darkness “defies everything”. Vacationeers, hikers, fishermen, campers have reported eerie sites of shadowy transparent people walking around bushes and trees and then vanishing. There have been many deaths at Milford Sound. Most recently a hiker died in 2022 and another hiker, hiking around Mitre Peak died on the trails in 2025. A Kayaker died in 2024. There has been other water related deaths. Campers have encountered “The Blue Ladies”. Three ghostly women dressed in blue dresses crossing hiking trails. Legend has it, if you come across The Blue Ladies, you may have an accident that will cause an injury.

Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe’s depths hold a variety of features, including historic shipwrecks, a potential ancient forest, and a variety of aquatic life. There are also legends about creatures like “Tahoe Tessie” and the preservation of bodies due to the cold water. When I lived in Lake Tahoe, I was told by one of the managers of Harrah’s Tahoe that many gaming tokens aka poker casino chips that were no longer in use were dumped in Lake Tahoe. Some of those chips were placed in containers that looked treasure chests. The Emerald Bay Maritime Heritage Trail includes sunken barges and other boats resting on the lakebed. It is rumored that World War II planes sit on the bottom of the lake. When I worked at Harrah’s Tahoe and later with Sahara Tahoe Casino, I heard many ghost stories. Besides the cryptid named Tessie, we have hauntings at the Thunderbird Lodge. The lodge, built by the wealthy recluse George Whittell Jr., is said to be haunted by him and his mistress, Mae Mollhagen.
At the Cal Neva Lodge which was a former celebrity retreat is rumored to be haunted by Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and other members of the Rat Pack. A “floor man” at Harrah’s Tahoe Casino claimed he saw the ghost of Frank Sinatra at Cal Neva Lodge. The ghost of a murdered showgirl is said to haunt the Tahoe Biltmore. Sometimes she is seen crying. A man in black suit, white shirt and black tie is seen walking around the Watson Cabin Museum. Many believe this is the former ghostly owner hanging around. The Watson Cabin Museum is the oldest wooden building in Lake Tahoe. What is really scary is the Tahoe City Public Beach. A jilted bride is said to haunt this beach, attempting to lure young men to their deaths. As a paranormal investigator I investigated many haunted locations at Lake Tahoe, including the Donner Party site. There were reports of people seeing a caravan in the woods and then vanishing. They believe it was the Donner Party caravan. I have been to Heritage Plaza to hunt the lake monster named Tessie. I spent the whole day there and only saw a floating log that a couple of people thought may have been Tessie. Unfortunately, it wasn’t. There are stories of the Mafia dumping bodies into the deep waters of Lake Tahoe, particularly off the South Shore. Oh, we have one more cryptid at Lake Tahoe. The Washoe people have their own legends of a creature called the Ong, which they believed inhabited the lake. The Ong, as it became known, was said to have wings as long as the tallest pine tree, colossal-webbed feet, and was covered in both feathers and scales. Legend maintains that the creature also had a human-like face.

When you leave Lake Tahoe, you are safe…well, maybe. The Sierra Nevada Mountains have stories of werewolves, UFOs and Bigfoot. So, I guess, you aren’t safe until you reach home.

Garlock, CA (Ghost Town)
Like many other abandoned mining towns, Garlock’s decaying buildings and desolate setting naturally evoke a sense of mystery and a taste of the past. Many people interpret this as ghostly. The town’s history, marked by failed attempts to strike it rich and the eventual abandonment of the area, includes stories of untimely deaths and hardship, which has thrown coal into the furnace in believing this town is haunted. Dora Weredon of Bakersfield, CA claims she saw 3 ghostly miners manifest under a blazing desert sun. Dora at first thought they were mannequins portraying miners and started to walk towards them. The miners then vanished. Some visitors have heard disembodied moaning, coughing and hacking. High Desert Paranormal out of Los Angeles captured 2 EVPs.  First EVP: “Get the Nipper!” (male voice).  2nd EVP: “Three muckmen!” (male voice). When I visited Garlock, all I captured were orbs. Orbs can be almost anything and the orbs I caught, I believe were merely dust orbs. I captured no EVPs. When walking around Garlock, I felt vertigo. I have no explanation for that. I was not dehydrated. I just don’t know.

SPECIAL NOTE:
I have been to Auckland, New Zealand with Patricia Mary Mitchell & my stepson Jason Randall Porter and heard many stories about Milford Sound. We wanted to head over there, but didn’t have time. When I lived in Lake Tahoe, I was a professional dancer with Jeff Kutache’s Dancing Machine and we were the first number to Cher.  We performed at Harrah’s Tahoe. My uncle Jose Causing, Merchant Marine has been to Solomon Islands and says that these islands are very haunted. Many villages are said to be haunted by past relatives of the villagers.
