Seville Cathedral
One of the places that my dad and his wife Cindy visited while in Seville is the Seville Cathedral. The cathedral is one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in the world, this building has numerous eerie legends. My dad says that the cathedral is haunted by the Ghostly Guardian. The Ghostly Guardian is a ghostly medieval knight. This knight patrols the cathedral’s halls on stormy nights. He is a silent sentinel watching over the building that he helped construct. My dad says that the tour guide actually claimed to have encountered the Ghostly Guardian. There is also a curse that warns people that betray a vow within the cathedral’s grounds will be met with misfortune. Another ghost is the Cathedral’s Woman in White. Some claim to have seen the ghost of a woman in white who disappears into a thick fog. The primary paranormal legend associated with Seville Cathedral is the ghost of Christopher Columbus, whose remains are interred there. Sightings describe him as a sorrowful, cloaked figure wandering near his tomb, sometimes accompanied by a sense of unease, icy chills, or the sound of a rustling cloak. When my dad and Cindy visited Christopher Columbus tomb, they did not notice anything unusual or paranormal. Columbus ghost is often described as a cloaked figure with a shadowed face. It is said that Columbus ghost likes to wander near his tomb. When visitors encounter the spirit, they sometimes feel a sense of unease or an icy chill. Columbus’s remains were moved to Seville in 1898 after Spain lost control of Cuba, and he has been interred in the cathedral since 1899. My dad and Cindy said that while wandering around the cathedral, they at times felt breezy cold chills. Their guide said that they brushed up against some of the Cathedral’s many ghosts.

Faculty of Fine Arts
This faculty on Laraña Street, formerly the Convent of the Mercy, is a hub of paranormal activity. Staff and students have reported elevators moving on their own, lockers opening and closing, and unexplained noises like macabre laughter. Some of the staff refer this as the Mercy Poltergeists, while others consider the activity to be attributed to the Pantheon of Illustrious Sevillians (former Jesuit convent), located in the basement, where figures like writer Cecilia Bölh de Faber and poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer are buried. Reports from cleaning staff and security guards describe lockers opening and closing on their own, and furniture and objects shifting positions. Witnesses claim to have heard macabre laughter, whispers, moans, and the sound of something or someone desperately trying to lift a coffin lid. Unexplained occurrences include elevators moving between floors on their own and electrical appliances, such as hair dryers, operating without being plugged in. Researchers and paranormal investigators who have explored the faculty claim to have recorded psychophonies—electronic voice phenomena—that include the phrase “Go away from here”. It’s interesting that they would get an EVP like that, because in most haunted places, the ghosts seem to always like saying “get out!” Isn’t there something else, they would like to talk about? Let’s talk about the Santiago Phantom. The Santiago Phantom is one of the most prominent legends revolving around a former Fine Arts model named Santiago who later became a maintenance employee. The story goes that he died under strange circumstances. On the night of his death, cleaners reportedly heard unsettling noises and found the faculty’s ivy vines uprooted. Many believe his restless spirit haunts the halls. Some locals speculate that the ghost of the poet Gustavo Adolfo Becquer is making all the ruckus and unusual occurrences. The paranormal phenomena became so frequent and unsettling that the University of Seville reportedly authorized an official investigation. The investigation included the recording of the psychophony message commanding people to leave the building. Paranormal television shows, such as Spain’s Cuarto Milenio, have highlighted the faculty, broadcasting interviews with witnesses and experts.

Hospital of Five Wounds
The Hospital of the Five Wounds (Hospital de las Cinco Llagas) in Seville, Spain, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a cruel nun/former nurse named Sister Ursula. Legends say she was harsh and her patients often died after she attended to them. Her ghost is believed to still wander the corridors, sometimes making the rattling sound of her keys. The sister is seen still wearing her habit. Some people have heard loud verbal cussing, believed to be Sister Ursula. Sister Ursula was known to have a very bad temper. The building, now the seat of the Parliament of Andalusia, is also said to be haunted by the spirits of plague victims. Moaning, screaming is sometimes heard and it is believed it’s coming from the ghostly plague victims. When Sister Ursula is sighted, witnesses says that she appears to be transparent and can walk through walls. When she is around, the jingle of keys will always be heard. In life, Sister Ursula jangled those keys to torment the patients.
