CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE: NORTH CAROLINA
Cape Hatteras National Seashore is known for its haunted history. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is particularly famous for its ghostly tales, including the ghost of a black and white cat that has been seen roaming the grounds. The otherworldly, black-and-white ghost cat that rubs against people’s legs is sometimes called Tabby. If you try and pick Tabby up, he will just disappear. Then there is the mysterious apparition of a man in a gray suit who appears before storms. The man in a gray suit is known as the “Storm Bringer”. Mark Davis, a local, saw the Storm Bringer standing near the light house, while the rain was coming down heavy. Mark says he just stood there, not affected by the strong downpour. Additionally, the lighthouse is said to be haunted by the ghost of a shipwreck victim. The victim was on the ship called the Carroll A. Deering. This ship when it crashed on shore, they found untouched meals ready for the crew. The ship washed ashore in 1921. During storms, people have seen 3 drenched sailors walking along the shoreline, only to fade away into nothingness. These legends contribute to the eerie reputation of Cape Hatteras as a site with a rich history of paranormal activity.

Another entity that is associated with the Cape Hatteras National Seashore is the Nags Head Woods Goatman! The Nags Head Woods Goatman is an Outer Banks urban legend about a reclusive man living in the woods with his goats, who seeks revenge on teenagers who vandalized his home and killed his favorite goat. Gaining traction in the mid-1970s and 1980s, the story portrays the Goatman as a vengeful figure, sometimes described with an axe or in a yellow raincoat, who haunts the woods to punish trespassers. While no real evidence or casualties confirm the legend, it remains a popular tale among locals. The story has been featured on interactive folklore maps and inspiring local fiction. Rumor has it that the serial killer known as “The Fisherman” from the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is based on The Goatman. Another creature that haunts the area is the Swamp Monster of East Lake. Some locals say there is a creature that has plant life all over its body and walks around and then just disappears. Sometimes before sunrise, you may see the “Ghost Lantern”. A mysterious light on the seashore that fades away when the sun rises.

BODIAM CASTLE: ENGLAND
Bodiam Castle has a reputation for being haunted and is associated with several ghost stories and alleged paranormal events. A famous ghost that haunts Bodiam Castle is the Red Lady. The Red Lady is a ghostly woman dressed in red. She is seen gazing from a window of one of the castle’s towers, fixated on some distant point. A staff member once reportedly spotted her while locking up, and after a search found that no one was there. The next ghost is known as the Drowned Boy. A boy in Victorian-era clothing was reportedly seen in 1994, running towards the castle before disappearing midway across the bridge. It is speculated that he may have fallen into the moat and drowned. People passing the castle at night have claimed to hear disembodied sounds of revelry, singing, and “strange oaths” coming from within the ruined walls. Some visitors have reported a strange aura or a sudden cool atmosphere while exploring the castle.

CORVIN CASTLE: ROMANIA
Corvin Castle is widely considered haunted and is one of Romania’s most haunted locations, with many legends and claims of unexplained phenomena. Stories include the ghosts of Vlad the Impaler, tortured prisoners, a monk, and spectral figures, alongside reports of strange shadows, whispers, and unexplained touches, making it a popular site for ghost hunting or what we call “dark tourism”. Let’s take a look closer at some of these ghosts that haunt Corvin Castle. First, we have Vlad the Impaler.

A chilling legend claims Vlad was imprisoned in the castle for years, a story that has led to speculation about his spirit lingering within the walls. Can you imagine seeing the ghost of Dracula? Other ghosts are the Three Turkish Prisoners. A well-known tale involves three Turkish prisoners who were forced to dig a well to earn their freedom but were killed by their captors. Their restless spirits are said to still haunt the castle. Tourists have claimed they have seen The Monk. A ghost of a monk is said to haunt the Capistrano Tower, having been bricked into a wall for spying.

Visitors and investigators have reported seeing ghostly figures, shadow movements, and hearing unexplained whispers and sounds. Guests have described feeling unseen hands brush against their skin, experiencing inexplicable cold spots, and feeling a strong sense of dread. Some reports include evidence of violent poltergeist activity and electronic voice phenomena (EVP), which involves unexplained voices recorded on devices. Tourists who once tried to stay in the castle overnight returned bruised and terrified, claiming they were attacked by angry ghosts.
