Iranian regime attack and very heavy missile barrage of Camp Liberty in Iraq

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Since 7:40 pm local time on Thursday, Camp Liberty has come under the most severe attack and very heavy missile barrage.

According to the latest information received from Camp Liberty, over 80 missiles of all types have been hit the camp that houses Iranian opposition members.
Craters as deep as 2 meters and 3.5 meter wide have been created in some impact areas.
The intensity of the explosions are to the extent that many housing units and their protective T-walls have been destroyed or fallen down.

Among missiles fired on Camp Liberty tonight are 122 mm Katyusha missiles, as well as missiles that the Iranian regime has produced similar to NB24 Russian missiles that it has dubbed Falaq.

Maryam Rajavi strongly condemned the heavy missile attack this evening on Camp Liberty and declared: The government of Iraq and the United Nations who signed a Memorandum of Understanding and built a Temporary Transit Location (TTL) since 2011, are formally and legally accountable for this attack. In our view, however, as was the case in the six previous bloodbaths in Ashraf and Liberty, the Iranian regime’s agents in the government of Iraq are responsible for this attack and the United States and the United Nations are well aware of this fact.

U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the recent attack on Camp Liberty:

“Today’s reported attack, yet another deadly assault on civilians in Camp Liberty, is deeply troubling. The Iraqi government must provide immediate aid to the wounded and suffering.

“With growing Iranian involvement in Iraq, the security situation around Camp Liberty is increasingly risky. The Iraqi Government made an international commitment to protect the Camp’s residents. The U.S. and international community must demand accountability.”

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, made the following statement today regarding reports of a missile attack on Camp Liberty. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:

“I am deeply troubled by reports that Camp Liberty residents have come under missile attack tonight and that there may be two dozen or more killed. If true, this brutal and unprovoked attack represents a failure by the Iraqi government to honor its obligations to protect the residents at Liberty and must be condemned. Secretary Kerry and the State Department must call for an immediate and impartial investigation into this act of terror, work to bring the perpetrators to justice, and do more to ensure the security of Camp Liberty.”

Congressman Ted Poe also condemns attack on Camp Liberty.

Friends of a Free Iran in European Parliament which consists of large number of MEPs from various political groups, strongly condemns this ruthless attack and killing of refugees who are all Protected Persons under the terms of the Geneva conventions.

It calls on United States and United Nations to intervene immediately to help the injured and prevent further loss of lives.

The European Union High Representative, United Nations and United States must immediately condemn this brutal attack and demand from Iraq to bring those responsible for the massacre of innocent refugees to justice.

British MPs also condemn the deadly missile attack on Camp Liberty resulting in death of 20 camp residents.

Lord Carlile of Berriew QC, the co-Chair of the BPCIF condemned this attack in strongest terms and said “it is contrary to all international law”. While reiterating the need for international intervention, in particular from the U.S. and the EU, to secure the safety of these residents, he called on the “UN to institute an immediate inquiry into why and how this attack happened”.

The International Parliamentary Campaign in Defence of Ashraf and Liberty (IPCDA) is appalled by the news this afternoon of the 4th deadly rocket attack on Camp Liberty, Iraq, that lead to 23 residents dead and scores of others severely injured.

“We have been warning the international community and particularly the UN many times. We call on the UN and the US government who are signatory to the quadrate agreement for providing safety and security of the residents of Liberty to take immediate action to:

1- Make sure the injured residents have full and immediate access to all the medical attention they need.

2- Investigate the recent attack fully, independently and transparently.

3- The UN refugee agency, the UNHCR, must immediately announce Camp Liberty a refugee camp under the protection of UN and remove all the Iraqi personnel who are responsible for constant harassment of the residents.

The UN credibility is seriously damaged in its handling of this case. It is time that the UN and US live up to their respective written, moral, and legal obligations.”
