Rajavi Focuses on Syria, Nuclear Agreement and 10 Point Plan

Maryam Rajavi, President-Elect to the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), was the keynote speaker at the Free Iran rally. “I have come to rely the words of those that have not been heard, the decisive force in Iran,” she said as part of her opening statements. She spoke of the resolve of the oppressed that will “change the face of Iran.”

Her first point was based on the nuclear agreement that was signed one year ago. She pointed to the lack of true progress in terms of restraining the religious extremism or halting nuclear development. The Iranian regime could not contain the discontent of the people and the Western nations and companies found no “golden city” in Iran. While the regime has struggled to survive and found itself involved in the quagmire that is Syria, the resistance has grown and gained more support.

“They assumed that after the nuclear deal, all doors would instantly open for the regime, enabling them to find ways to contain the protests inside the country,” said Rajavi, in part because Rouhani was playing the part of a moderate leader. Many of the sanctions were lifted and revenues did increase, but the gains were poured into the Syrian war and propping up Assad’s regime. Additionally, business delegations found a bankrupt and unstable regime during visits to Tehran. She pointed out that instead of fixing the Iranian economy, it has now plunged into a recession, leading to more suffering by the Iranian people.

The banking system went bankrupt and factories have closed down, “like autumn leaves.” Instead of improving their position in the global community, they have increased their interference in neighboring countries. The attempts to claim moderation and reform were a sham, as the Supreme Leader still had control of the government, despite the supposed elections that were recently held.

Rouhani’s administration has imposed the most repressive policies against workers, since the revolution itself. Religious oppression and discrimination has increased like never before, noted Rajavi, pointing to the testing of missiles, arrests and increased executions. Despite opportunities from the West, the regime has remained feeble and unable to sustain itself. Protests are increasing inside the country, as well as without.

The denial of food, medicine and other needs to Camp Liberty, along with the July 4^th missile attack, were a response from the regime against the Free Iran rally being held in Paris, noted Rajavi.

One of the fundamental realities of the past year, according to Rajavi, is that the factions have failed to find a way to prop up the regime. The second reality is because the Iranian people have come to support a change of government, this change is now within reach. Finally, a real solution stands out from the religious theocracy is the NCRI and it’s 10 Point Plan.

This solution has been underpinned by the existence of a democratic solution, based on the Iranian people’s readiness for change. The political prisoners and their hunger strikes demonstrate this resistance. Throughout her remarks, Rajavi continued to point to the reasons that the regime cannot succeed indefinitely, but is on its last legs. She also continued to point to a democratic solution for the people of Iran and demand justice for those suffering under the regime.
