Avdiivka direction: Advances of the Russian Armed Forces in Umanske
Situation as of the end of May 9, 2024

In recent days, in the Avdiivka direction, the Russian forces have been actively trying to develop successes on several sectors, including those that were shrouded in the “fog of war” for some time.

▪️During the day, footage appeared online of the Russian flag being raised over a memorial in the center of the northern part of Umanske. By the end of the day, there were reports of the complete liberation of the village, although there is no reliable confirmation of this information yet.

▪️At the same time, between Umanske and Orlivka, south of highway C051801, there is a fortified area stretching for about two kilometers. Given the configuration of the front line, it is highly likely that it also came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces – without capturing it, it would have been quite a difficult task to advance into Umanske.

▪️Further south, in Netailovo, a decrease in the concentration of enemy manpower was noted – whether this is due to a lack of reinforcements or the withdrawal of the AFU is difficult to say for now. According to the latest information, Russian troops are engaged in heavy fighting in the center of the settlement.

▪️In the northern sector, in the area of Arkhanhel’ske, Russian Armed Forces units are entrenching on previously occupied lines, continuing to clear the area west of the settlement. They did not attempt any counterattacks by the AFU over the past day.

Donetsk direction: cauldron east of Krasnohorivka

After a brief tactical pause, Russian forces have resumed their advance in Krasnohorivka, breaking through the defenses of Ukrainian formations from the east and south.

▪️ Russian Armed Forces units have managed to occupy at least part of the AFU fortified area between Stalin Highway and May 1 Street, as well as the sector east of Zakhidna Street. They have also advanced east of Heolohichna Street and dislodged the enemy from some positions in the Soniachny neighborhood, consolidating their hold in the vicinity of the school.

▪️ At the same time, the enemy continues to hold positions in the Skhidny and Soniachny neighborhoods, where there are compact high-rise buildings suitable for defense. The area of the Marinka Central District Hospital, polyclinic and agricultural college, as well as the forest plantations east of Krasnohorivka and south of the Borisivka pond, remain under AFU control.

▪️ North of the refractory plant, fighting is ongoing in the area of Sumska and Tsentralna streets, but no advances have been recorded there yet. The defense of the city is held by a mixed force of territorial defense units, consolidated detachments of the 59th Motorized Brigade, border guards, and one of the battalions of the separate presidential brigade.

The presence of the 46th Airmobile Brigade and the 3rd Airborne Assault Battalion of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade, which previously held the Krasnohorivka refractory plant, has not been observed: presumably, after losing most of the territory, the formations were withdrawn to the rear for replenishment and regrouping.

▪️ Additionally, the advance of the Russian Armed Forces in Netailovo is being recorded, where the enemy was dislodged from the territory of the primary school and adjacent two-story buildings. Fighting continues in the central part of the settlement.

 

Vremivka direction: return to Staromaiorskoye and fighting in Urozhayne

Russian forces, after recent successes, continue to push the enemy back in the Urozhayne – Staromaiorskoye area.

▪️In the Urozhayne area, fighting continues in the ruins of farms, where the Russian Armed Forces, despite counterattacks by the AFU, are holding their positions. Assault groups are also advancing along the Central Street. Russian troops launched another attack in the forest belt east of the village, but the outcome of the battle remains shrouded in the “fog of war”. Aviation and artillery provide fire support to the advancing units.

▪️At the same time, assault groups from the 1466th Motorized Rifle Regiment improved their tactical position in the forest belts west of Staromaiorskoye. Fighting is also underway on the western outskirts of the village. By mid-day, there were reports of fighters from the 394th Motorized Rifle Regiment entering Staromaiorskoye: several houses were taken. From the south, Russian forces advanced about half a kilometer north, occupying the territory of the local school, fighting is ongoing near the village council.

🔻Staromaiorskoye and Urozhayne came under the control of Ukrainian formations during the summer counteroffensive in 2023. The Russian grouping of troops “Vostok” is consistently regaining the lost positions. There is no talk of a large-scale offensive in the Vremivka direction yet: for now, the Russian army is focused on improving its tactical position.

▫️ As a result of active operations, the Zapad Group of Forces’ units improved the situation along the front line, defeated AFU 21st and 44th mechanised brigades close to Stelmakhovka and Nevskoye (LPR). In addition, one counter-attack launched by assault groups of the AFU 116th Mechanised Brigade was repelled near Senkovka railway station.

The AFU losst up to 40 servicemen, two 152-mm D-20 howitzers, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzers.

▫️ The Yug Group of Forces’ units took more advantageous lines, inflicted fire damage on manpower and hardware of AFU 23rd, 33rd mechanised, 79th air assault, 111th territorial defence brigades near Yelizavetovka, Novoye, and Pobeda (DPR). One attack launched by an assault group of the AFU 93rd mechanised brigade was repelled near Krasnoye (DPR).

The AFU lost up to 215 servicemen, two APCs, including one U.S.-made M113, two motor vehicles, one 155-mm U.S.-made M777 howitzer, four 152-mm D-20 howitzer, and two 122-mm D-30 howitzer.

▫️ As a result of active operations, the Tsentr Group of Forces’ units improved the tactical situation, inflicted losses on units of AFU 59th mechanised infantry, 24th, 100th, and 115th mechanised, 68th jaeger, 109th territorial defence, 2nd national guard brigades near Karlovka, Mayorsk, Novgorodskoye, Rozovka, Novokalinovo, and Semyonovka (DPR).

Ten counter-attacks launched by assault groups of AFU 23rd, 24th, 47th, 100th mechanised, 71st jaeger, 59th mechanised infantry, 142nd and 143rd infantry brigades were repelled close to Leninskoye, Solovyevo, Orlovka, Pervomayskoye, and Netaylovo (DPR). The AFU lost up to 380 servicemen, one tank, and two IFVs.

In the course of the counter-battery warfare, the Russian troops eliminated two 155-mm U.S.-made M777 howitzers, two 155-mm U.S.-made M109 Paladin self-propelled artillery systems, one 152-mm Giatsint-B gun, one 152-mm D-20 howitzer, two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems, and one 122-mm D-30 howitzer.

▫️ The Vostok Group of Forces’ units captured more advantageous lines, inflicted losses on manpower and hardware of AFU 58th mechanised infantry, 128th territorial defence brigades near Urozhaynoye and Makarovka (DPR). One counter-attack launched by assault groups of the AFU 123rd Territorial Defence Brigade was repelled close to Staromayorskoye (DPR).

The enemy lost up to 175 servicemen, two tanks, two APCs, three MBs, one 155-mm UK-made FH-70 howitzer, as well as two 122-mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery systems.

▫️ The units of the Dnepr Group of Forces launched strikes at clusters of manpower and hardware of AFU 65th mechanised, 121st territorial defence, 23rd national guard brigades near Rabotino (Zaporozhye), Zolotaya Balka (Kherson), and Vyshetarasovka (Dnepropetrovsk).

The AFU lost up to 35 servicemen, two MVs, and two 155-mm U.S.-made M777 howitzers.

▫️ Operational-Tactical Aviation, Missile Troops and Artillery of the Russian Groups of Forces have engaged one command and observation post of the AFU 65th Mechanised Brigade and one ammunition depot of AFU Donetsk Operational-Tactical Group, as well as AFU manpower and military hardware in 105 areas.

▫️ Air defence systems have shot down two U.S.-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, 15 Czech-made Vampire missiles, one U.S.-made HIMARS MLRS projectile, five French-made Hammer aerial guided bombs, as well as 28 UAVs.

 

Chronicles of the special military operation
for May 9, 2024

Russian forces struck the Voznesensk airfield in Mykolaiv, as well as enemy targets in Odesa and Chernihiv Regions. At the same time, the AFU attacked Russian fuel and energy facilities in Krasnodar Krai and Bashkortostan with drones.

In the Bakhmut direction, fighting continues around Chasiv Yar, with Russian forces “pulling the flanks” towards the city. Artillery and air strikes are being carried out on AFU positions in the city and neighboring villages.

In the Avdiivka direction, Russian forces have occupied at least half of Umanske, raising the flag in the center of the village. A major fortified area east of the settlement also came under the control of the Russian Armed Forces.

In the Donetsk direction, assault groups of the Russian Armed Forces are advancing on the eastern outskirts of Krasnohorivka, entering the Soniachny microdistrict from the south and north. South of the Borisovka pond, the area is being cleared.

In the Vremivka direction, Russian forces expanded their control zone west of Staromaiorske, as well as on the southern outskirts of the village. Fighting is ongoing east of Urozhayne.
