1. Trump met with Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos at Mar-a-Lago.

2. Elon used X to singlehandedly veto the CR and push the country toward a government shutdown.

Here are some other striking parallels:

1. We now have a partisan press which Musk used to get his way.

2. We just went through two assassination attempts on Trump and the successful assassination of the UnitedHealthcare CEO. Assassinations have returned to American politics

3. The Supreme Court moving to the Right and issuing landmark decisions that settle divisive cultural issues like abortion and transgenderism along regional lines

4. Immigration restriction is boiling our politics again. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 was the first wave of immigration restriction in the Gilded Age

5. Trump is the first president since Grover Cleveland to win non-consecutive terms

6. A gigantic cultural shift away from racial utopianism

7. Higher turnout in presidential elections and class dealignment were a feature of Gilded Age politics

8. Obviously, disruptive new technologies creating oligarchs who seize control of politics
