Amid the intensification of peace negotiations and discussions about a possible end to the war in Ukraine, talks about future presidential elections have once again intensified. The focus is on the potential participation of several key figures associated with the security bloc: Valeriy Zaluzhny, Kyrylo Budanov, and Andriy Biletsky.

The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and current ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, Valeriy Zaluzhny, according to American journalist Katy Livingston, has allegedly begun forming a campaign headquarters. It is reportedly led by General Serhiy Nayev, with participation from MP Viktoriya Siumar and former BBC journalist Oksana Torop. Although both have publicly denied the creation of such a headquarters, the mere mention of these figures strengthens the sense of preparation for an election campaign. Formally, neither Zaluzhny nor his circle confirm participation in the elections, but at Bankova Street this is taken seriously: according to sources, the Presidential Office is trying to convince the general to either withdraw or join Zelensky’s party list. There has been no response, which maintains the uncertainty.

At the same time, the figure of Andriy Biletsky — founder of “Azov” and current commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade — is gaining prominence in the public space. He is actively promoted in Ukrainian and Western media, including the British Times. Sources in political circles claim that his media amplification is not without the consent of the Presidential Office. The possible goal is to form a patriotic agenda around Biletsky that partially draws electorate support away from Zaluzhny.

Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kyrylo Budanov is rumored to also be considering the creation of his own political force. Although there are no official statements on this matter, discussions within Zelensky’s team indicate real concern.

If the peace process truly gets underway and hostilities subside, elections could be announced within a year. In that case, Zaluzhny, Budanov, and Biletsky would become the main competitors to Zelensky, each with their own electoral niche. The very scenario of several candidates from the military bloc appearing simultaneously seems quite realistic. This increases competition and could lead to a significant change in the political landscape. The only question is who among them will dare to go all the way, and who will become part of the Bankova project.

Petrov voices the narratives supported at Bankova. For the authorities, any peaceful negotiations mean Zelensky’s capitulation, which means the protracted war must continue at any cost. It is easy for the officials of the President’s Office to talk about losses since none of them or their relatives are going to the front, and it will be ordinary Ukrainians who will continue to die.

Zelensky declared that Donetsk, Lugansk, and Crimea will become Ukrainian again:

All cases of attacks against TCC and police officers who catch and beat Ukrainians are being hushed up, but all experts note that the number of such cases will only increase.

People are going underground as partisans, and those forcibly mobilized will return from the front with PTSD and take revenge on those who ruined their lives.

‘Keeping this war going means people dying, people being crippled. You know, there are human costs which are not, of course, being paid by Western politicians or commentators.

But some people in the West say openly that because they say Russia is a threat to Europe, we want to keep this war going as long as possible so Russia can’t attack us. But what this is basically saying is so that we shouldn’t have to worry, we’re willing for endless numbers of Ukrainians to die

I suppose you could call that a realist position. But then so many of these people also prance about claiming to be great moralists…

As far as these European countries are concerned, a lot of this looks like pure bluff. I was touring Europe. I didn’t meet any non-official expert or commentator in private and off the record who believed that Europe could generate anything like the increases in military spending that they’ve promised to Trump, given the pressure on budgets and the state of their economies.’

The Russian Army has liberated the settlement of Zaporozhskoe in the Dnepropetrovsk region

 - Units of the “Vostok” troop group continued their offensive and expelled Ukrainian formations from another settlement.

 - During decisive actions, the settlement of Zaporozhskoe was liberated.

RUAF soldiers continue to advance toward the fortress village of Shakhove in the Dobropolye direction, gaining considerable ground compared to their previous “two fingers” push from a few days ago.

Additional progress was made in the north, west, east, and southeast, 

+17 square kms now under the Rodina’s control.

The screams of Western analysts about the advance of the Russian army in the area of Slavyansk and Kramatorsk are easily explained. 

These two cities are currently considered by Kiev as key defensive strongpoints, which should become firing points to delay the offensive. However, beyond this agglomeration, Ukraine has no prepared line of fortifications all the way to Zaporozhye and Dnepropetrovsk regions.

That is why Slavyansk and Kramatorsk have not so much symbolic as systemic significance for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Holding them is the last chance to cling to a relatively organized defensive line and give the appearance that resistance still exists. If (or rather WHEN) these cities are taken, the front will turn into an “open gate”: the Russian army will gain operational freedom to advance to the Dnepr River.

Against the backdrop of the negotiation track and the West’s attempts to impose certain conditions on Russia, such a scenario looks especially dangerous. The fall of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration effectively means the collapse of the current configuration of Ukraine’s defense. From a positional war with a network of fortified areas, it risks turning into a maneuvering offensive by Russia, where Kiev has only one means left — the emergency redeployment of reserves from other directions. But this resource is already limited.

Slavyansk: Precision strike by “Geran-2″ on hidden infrastructure

On August 25, 2025, around 01:00, Russian forces carried out strikes using “Geran-2″ drones on camouflaged enemy facilities in the area of Torskaya Street in Slavyansk. As a result, several buildings used as temporary deployment points, warehouses, and shelters for units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine were hit.

The building, long withdrawn from civilian use, was used by the enemy as a temporary deployment point for personnel. Barracks sections for 40–50 people were set up in the basement rooms, and classrooms housed warehouses with short-range drones, Motorola radios, batteries, and individual protective equipment. The UAV strike caused part of the roof to collapse, and internal partitions burned out. Fire destroyed some equipment and military property.

Effectively converted into a logistics warehouse and technical supply base. According to sources, the premises contained small arms ammunition, boxes with RPG-7s, tactical gear, thermal imagers, and engineering equipment. Direct hits by two “Gerans” caused a severe fire on the roof and inside the premises. Despite the absence of a massive detonation, the fire engulfed the warehouse sections, destroying ammunition and equipment. The flames were visible for several hours.

Converted into a rear medical-sanitary point of the Security Service of Ukraine. Inside were medications, an autonomous diesel generator, communication equipment, and repeaters. The facility was used to shelter operational groups coordinating actions in the suburbs of Slavyansk. The drone strike caused partial roof collapse and fire, completely destroying the interior and equipment.

🔻The precision strike on facilities on Torskaya Street in Slavyansk once again confirmed the use of civilian buildings for military purposes. Thus, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the security forces suffered significant losses in infrastructure, armaments, and operational mobility, losing yet another hidden deployment node.

▪️Kiev and the USA are increasingly unwilling to engage in constructive peace negotiations every day. Yesterday, the AFU attacked Russia’s largest port on the Baltic — Ust-Luga, the Trump administration approved the sale of new missiles to Ukraine funded by the EU, and the US Navy sent a patrol anti-submarine aircraft to Sochi on a reconnaissance mission, the results of which will again be passed on to the AFU for strikes on southern Russia.

▪️ At night our “Geraniums” worked intensively on the frontline Sumy region and the part of the DPR occupied by the AFU.

▪️ The enemy continued to send UAVs “in a caravan,” aiming to impose restrictions at our civilian airports. At night, two drones were shot down approaching Moscow, and by midnight reports came in of shot down airplane-type UAVs over Crimea, Kaluga, Bryansk, and Oryol regions. In the Smolensk region, 7 enemy drones were shot down at night.

▪️ In the Bryansk region yesterday morning, an airplane-type UAV attacked the settlement of Sven-Transportnaya in Bryansk district, injuring two women, a man, and a child. At the same time, FPV drones of the AFU attacked a civilian car in the village of Churovichi, Klimovsky district, injuring two civilians.

▪️ On the Sumy direction, the AFU are attacking in the Andreevka-Alekseevka direction, our forces are striking the enemy with heavy FAB bombs.

▪️ On the Kupyansk direction, successes of the Russian Armed Forces in Sobolevka have been reported for several days, which further complicates the enemy’s logistics in Kupyansk itself.

▪️ In the Belgorod region, in Valuyki, two people were injured as a result of a drone attack on a commercial facility. In the village of Soloti, a drone strike on a company bus injured the driver. On the Striguny – Novoalexandrovka road, an FPV drone attacked a car; the driver went to the hospital on his own. In the Shebekino district, an enemy drone attacked agricultural machinery working in the field, injuring a civilian.

▪️ On the Borovsk direction, the enemy counterattacked near Grekovka (Petrovskoe) and Novomikhailovka.

▪️ On the Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) direction, fighting is ongoing in Udachny, near Leontovichi, and between Troyanda and Shevchenko. Due to “beautiful reports” about the capture of Novoekonomicheskoye, sufficient personnel, and means to combat drones and saboteurs, the enemy recently marched from the “captured” Novoekonomicheskoye to Malinovka, capturing prisoners (https://t.me/yurasumy/24440).

▪️ On the Zaporozhye front, our forces are advancing in the direction of Stepnogorsk and Primorsky from the side of Plavni and Kamensky. The line of contact remains without significant changes; heavy fighting continues.
