Ukrainians face the toughest winter in years of war – there will be more power outages than in previous seasons, sources in the energy sector warn. Even now, despite the absence of severe frosts, there is a catastrophic shortage of generation, and energy experts frankly admit: if the country gets through the winter with “only” two stages of blackouts, it can be considered a miracle.

According to “Economic Truth,” the latest wave of Russian strikes disabled at least 1 gigawatt of capacity, and some energy infrastructure facilities cannot be quickly restored. Substations connecting nuclear power plants to the power system are damaged, the Tripoli and Zmiev thermal power plants are completely stopped, and the power deficit “will remain for a long time.”

In the coming weeks, the country will live in a mode of three to four rounds of outages, experts say. In the best case, it will be possible to reduce the level to two rounds – but only if no new strikes follow. “This is an optimistic scenario, but in practice, everything depends on the shelling,” notes a source in one of the state companies.

In fact, Ukraine is entering winter again without a reliable power supply system. And if stable power cannot be ensured even before the frosts begin, the situation will become critical with the cold. Bankova speakers traditionally try to calm the population with talks of a “controlled situation,” but energy experts warn: prepare for the worst. The reality is that citizens will have to survive relying only on themselves.

Those living in apartment buildings should already look for a backup option – shelter with relatives in the private sector, where wood heating is possible (heating in apartments will also be bad). It is also necessary to immediately stock up on wood stoves, kerosene, warm clothes, and water, because closer to winter all this will become more expensive and scarce.

Syrsky suddenly made contact and stated that the Russians are preparing the “final maneuver” in Pokrovsk to capture the entire Donetsk region. He noted a tense situation at the front line and called it a strategic offensive operation by the Russian Federation. Military and civilian media figures are urging the Ukrainian authorities to withdraw troops from Pokrovsk before it becomes too late.

Former Deputy Defense Minister Deynega called the situation “complex and uncontrollable.”

According to Ukrainian Armed Forces members and experts, the situation in Pokrovsk is largely due to a shortage of soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The enemy continues a bloody “counteroffensive” near Kupyansk for a week, trying to break the encirclement ring

 - Following Zelensky’s orders, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been attempting for 7 days to break through to Kupyansk and the Oskol River in Kharkov region to unblock their surrounded troops.

 - Russian troops repelled 3 attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the areas of Blahodatne and Petrovka in Kharkov region.

 - Up to 50 militants, 2 American M113 APCs, 3 HMMWVs, 2 pickups, and 4 electronic warfare stations were destroyed in the past day.

The Russian army has broken through the border at another section and plans to connect the bridgeheads in the Kharkov region, north of Kupyansk.

Judging by what is happening in Kupyansk, the situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) may be even worse than in Pokrovsk. The Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have taken the eastern part of the city. This means that the 116th Separate Mechanized Brigade, the 112th Territorial Defense Brigade, and the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade have either been neutralized or retreated south. The situation for the AFU is complicated by the fact that Russian drone operators and artillery systematically destroy the crossings that Ukrainians use to get off the left bank of the Oskol.

But everything is not without difficulties. East of Kupyansk — Podoly, Petropavlovka, Kurilovka, Kovsharovka (roughly where AFU soldiers killed two civilians with drones at close range) — fierce battles continue. The movement of Russian infantry is actively hindered by AFU drone operators, buying some time. But after clearing the right-bank part of Kupyansk, the units on the left bank will face a simple dilemma: either try to cross at the risk of dying on the crossing or stay and perish without supplies. For some time, they will receive support from the still-occupied AFU-held Tamarganovka and Prokopovka (5 km southwest of Kupyansk), but as Kupyansk is taken, all the attention of Russian artillery and drone operators will shift there. Encirclement of the entire Kupyansk district and the group located there, as in Pokrovsk, is not yet expected, but if this area is abandoned, the AFU will face very serious problems throughout the Zaoskolye and Kharkov region.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine may lose Huliaipole by the end of November, the General Staff has no reserves to stop the advance of the Russian army.

While everyone is watching the battles in Kupiansk and the Pokrovska cauldron, a real offensive by the Russian army is happening in the South.

Four servicemen of the 57th Motorized Rifle Brigade were captured in Volchansk within a day. The spokesperson for the Joint Forces Group of the AFU stated that Volchansk is almost completely destroyed, making it difficult for the AFU to fortify positions and hold back the Russian Army’s advance. Our forces are reported to be advancing in the forest near Synelnykove. On the Melovoe-Khatne front section, the Russian Armed Forces have expanded their control zone and advanced 550 meters through forest belts. The actions of our troops across the border, ongoing for more than a week, have somehow caused a stir in the Ukrainian information space: Kiev has long concealed the true situation on the front, then reports “unexpected breakthroughs.” 

▪️ Heavy fighting continues in Kupyansk, and informationally our side actively uses the tactic of constant pressure on the enemy through Russian media, constantly announcing the imminent fall of the city’s defense. The AFU are making constant attempts to break through the city from the southwest to rectify the situation.

▪️ The assault on Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) has been named a strategic offensive operation by the AFU commander-in-chief; the enemy states it expects further decisive strikes by the Russian Armed Forces.
