In December 2025, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), with support from the Department of Justice (DOJ), launched a public appeal specifically encouraging white men to file workplace discrimination claims.
EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas posted a video on December 17, 2025, asking, “Are you a white male who has experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex?” She stated that such individuals might have a “claim to recover money” under federal civil rights laws. The administration has reframed civil rights enforcement to target “DEI-related discrimination”. Vice President JD Vance supported the move, characterizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs as “deliberate programs of discrimination primarily against white men”.
The DOJ and EEOC released technical assistance documents earlier in 2025 to provide guidance on how workers can file complaints against DEI practices like race-based training, fellowship programs, and employee resource groups.
These efforts follow President Trump’s January 2025 executive orders aimed at “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity,” which mandated the termination of federal DEI offices and programs.
