In November 2025, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani requested the resignations of 179 City Hall employees from the outgoing administration of Mayor Eric Adams as part of a standard mayoral transition. The requests primarily affected political appointees in City Hall, including staff in communications, intergovernmental affairs, and the offices of deputy mayors. The Mamdani transition team characterized the move as a standard practice to build a team that can deliver on the new administration’s agenda.
While there have been various protests at City Hall during Mamdani’s tenure—including those related to anti-Muslim sentiment, federal immigration actions, and police brutality—there is no official record of a ‘raid’ conducted by bankrupt former city workers demanding reparations.
