JD Vance and CMS Administrator Dr. Oz Announce Major Actions Against MN Over Fraud (Video)

On 25 February 2026, Vice President JD Vance and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz announced actions against Minnesota over fraud allegations.
The administration is deferring $259.5 million in quarterly federal Medicaid funding to Minnesota. The CMS news release identifies $244 million of this as “unsupported or potentially fraudulent” and $15 million involving individuals with “unsatisfactory immigration status”. The freeze targets high-risk services such as personal care, home and community-based services, and non-emergency medical transportation. Funding will remain in “deferment limbo” until the state submits a comprehensive corrective action plan to address program integrity shortcomings.
A six-month nationwide moratorium on new Medicare enrollment for certain Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) suppliers was established, effective February 27, 2026. Dr. Oz unveiled the “Comprehensive Regulations to Uncover Suspicious Healthcare” (CRUSH) initiative, a crowdsourcing effort to solicit fraud tips from the public.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz criticized the move as a “campaign of retribution” against blue states, while the administration argued it is protecting taxpayer dollars from “self-serving scoundrels”.
