In This Land
The Lord said,
Do not take a wife nor have sons or daughters in this place.</b>
For the Lord says concerning the sons and daughters born in this land and concerning the mothers and fathers who bore them in this land:
They shall die gruesome deaths, they shall not be lamented nor shall they be buried but they shall be as dung upon the face of this land.
They shall be consumed by war and by famine, their bodies shall be meat for the birds of heaven and for the beasts of the earth.
Do not enter a house for mourning nor go to lament or bemoan them; for I have taken My peace from this people, My lovingkindness and mercy.
Both the great and the small shall die in this land. They shall not be buried neither shall mourn for them.
Men shall not break bread in mourning for them to comfort them for the dead. Neither shall men give them a drink of consolation to drink to their fathers or their mothers.
Nor shall they go into the house of feasting to eat and drink.
Behold I will cause to cease from this place in your days, the voice of mirth and gladness, the voice of the groom and the bride.
When the people hear these words they shall ask ‘what is our sin? Or what iniquity have we committed against God?’ Your answer shall be, ‘Because of you and your fathers have forsaken Me. Your fathers have set up their idols in their hearts and have served the evil imagination of their wicked hearts. They have forsaken Me and have not kept My statutes.
You have done worse than your fathers, each one of you follows the dictates of their own evil hearts so that no one listens to Me.
Therefore I will cast you out.
My eyes see all of your ways; they are not hidden from My face nor is your iniquity hidden from My face.
Therefore I will repay them double for their wickedness because they have defiled this land.
I will cause this people to know My hand and My might; and they shall know that My name is the LORD.
