A carrot and stick approach needs to be used with Mexico. Don’t antagonize Mexico to the point that it leaves America’s sphere of influence, nor put up with lack of cooperation without consequences. Trump’s rhetoric is satisfying for Americans to hear, but diplomacy, respect, and face-saving are important for Mexico.
