Will You Be ONE of the 144,000 People Mentioned in the Bible for the Last Days? How Well do You Know the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

As many of us continue to delve into, and study end times, it seems that all of the pieces are coming together now. Perhaps you have heard of the 144,000 people that will be God’s chosen in the last days. But who will these people be? Will one of them be you? Are they chosen based upon worthiness, or belonging to a certain religious group? Let’s read the scripture together and learn more about this fascinating concept.

Revelation 7: 1-8

“And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

² And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea,

³ Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

⁴ And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

⁵ Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.

⁶ Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nephthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.

⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.

⁸ Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

Alright, God will call 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes to serve in this capacity. This makes up the 144,000 mentioned in the scriptures above. Weather this number is symbolic in nature, or the exact number is irrelevant. The concept remains the same. God will call missionaries from each of the twelve tribes of Israel to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in the final days upon the earth. Hummm..How well do you know this gospel? =)

There will be a great amount of danger during the tribulation period. God has even told us that He plans on pouring out, “Seven Bowls of Wrath” upon satan and his followers in the final days. Look at this:

Revelation 16:1

“Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God.”

If God calls 144,000 missionaries, how will they avoid His intended wrath that will be poured out onto the earth? He has a plan, and has mentioned what this plan will be.

Revelation 9:4

“And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.”

God will “create” a seal upon their forehead. This seal and “blessing” will protect them from the wrath that will brutally come upon the earth. Safety, and protection: That sounds like our God.

So when will the 144,000 be called and anointed by God. Let’s consider the clues that we have been given:

We know that God will anoint these people prior to Him pouring out His wrath upon the earth. He just told us this. The wrath will begin midway through the tribulation period, or 3.5 years after the start of tribulation. The tribulation period starts with the building of the 3^rd temple built in Israel, and 3.5 years later the wrath begins. So, the 144,000 could be called at any time up until the final 3.5 years of the tribulation. (Are you studying your scriptures so that you will be ready for your mission call?)

We have learned that satan ALWAYS mimics God, and does similar things to further his kingdom. Similarly, he will be providing a mark identifying his followers during the tribulation period. Satan, the antichrist, will give “the mark of the beast” upon all of his followers upon their heads (or right hand).

Revelation 13:16-17

^“16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

¹⁷ And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

After continued study, I can not state that these 144,000 will be protected from ALL of the dangers brought upon them from the antichrist and His followers, just safe from the wrath of God. However, just because I can not find any details of this in the bible, there are still countless examples of God protecting and watching over His children who are in harm’s way. I have experienced this several times in my life personally, and with these experiences, I can declare the truthfulness of this statement.

Should death come to these “missionaries”, it is merely a quick ascend into their next responsibilities that are waiting for them in “heaven.” Death grants us entry into a glorious place, far beyond anything that we have experienced upon earth. During these days, we should not fear death. Please take a moment and acknowledge the shift that should occur with your thought process, as we prepare for the last days.

So how do we know that the purpose of these 144,000 will be to do missionary work? Let’s consider some logic, as well as this scripture to find the answer.

We know that the Jewish people do not know that Jesus Christ is the Savior and Son of God. We have also been told that the gospel of Jesus Christ will be shared with all of the world. Let’s read:

Matthew 24:14

^“14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

These people as well as many others living upon the earth have not had the chance to learn of the Savior. Many who have denied this gospel, and have made an active choice to not follow Him. They have had their chance, and must face the wrath of God. But to those who sincerely have not learned of the gospel of Jesus Christ, they still need to be taught. Well… by who? Time is running out. It is for this reason that I feel that the gospel will be shared by the 144,000 missionaries that will be called to do so during the tribulation period.

In addition to these people teaching the gospel, there are others mentioned in the bible that will have a similar task. They are referred to in the bible as the “Two Witnesses”.

Revelation 11:3-12

³ And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. (That’s 1,260 days, or 3 years and 6 months)

⁴ These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

⁵ And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.

⁶ These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.

⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

⁸ And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

⁹ And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

¹⁰ And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.

¹¹ And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.

¹² And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

Who are these two witnesses mentioned? This question has been studied and debated by many bible scholars. The scripture listed above indicates that they will both be Prophets. Their names are not specifically identified in the bible, however, the most likely answer is that they could be Enoch and Elijah, as neither experienced physical death and were taken directly to heaven.

The two prophets who come upon the earth for the final 3.5 years of the tribulation is consistent with the 144,000 who will be called at the same time to teach to gospel to those who do not know of the Savior.

It is my feeling that the two prophets will be assigned to the Jewish people of Israel, as they do not recognize Jesus Christ as the Missiah. The 144,000 will be assigned throughout the world, specific to their “tribe” location. The gospel of Jesus Christ will be shared one final time, and then the end will come, and Jesus Christ will come and complete the final task known as the battle of Armageddon.

I invite you all to continue learning about the end times. Prayerfully study the teachings that are in the bible. As you include our Father in Heaven, the confusion in the writings will become clear to you. Listen to His promptings. We all have work to do in bringing people to Christ. What are you doing each day to teach of Him. And, you just never know…. You might even be called to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world as His anointed member of the team of 144,000.
