The Making of a Modern Builder: Patrick Austin’s Approach to Industrial Roofing Excellence

Patrick Austin has built his career through a clear focus on execution, discipline, and long term thinking within the commercial roofing and waterproofing industry. Born on May 6, 1994, in Windsor, Ontario, he is a Canadian entrepreneur, businessman, patent owner, and executive who has grown from hands-on fieldwork into a leadership position spanning operations across Canada and the United States. As President and Chief Executive Officer of Austin Roofing & Waterproofing and Austin Roofing America, Austin leads a multi-million dollar enterprise that continues to expand its presence while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and performance.

His early years were shaped by competition and structure, largely influenced by his involvement in athletics. Growing up in Windsor, Austin competed in soccer at a high level, including with the Ontario FC Nationals, where he developed discipline, resilience, and a team first mindset. These experiences played a key role in forming his leadership style. He completed his secondary education at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Secondary School before attending St. Clair College, where he earned a diploma in Business and Marketing. This academic background provided a foundation in business operations and strategy that supported his future work.

Long before entering the roofing industry, Austin demonstrated an interest in entrepreneurship during his high school years. Patrick founded Pat’s Lawncare & Maintenance, serving residential and commercial clients throughout the Windsor region. The company grew steadily under his direction and expanded to include work on government properties and automotive-related facilities, such as tool-and-mold plants. Managing operations, scheduling crews, and maintaining client relationships gave him practical experience in running a business. After successfully scaling the company, he exited the venture, gaining early exposure to the full business development cycle.

Instead of entering leadership immediately within his family business, Austin chose to begin his career in roofing at the ground level. In 2013, he joined Austin Roofing & Waterproofing as a laborer, working directly on job sites across Southwestern Ontario. At that time, the company primarily handled residential and small commercial projects. This hands on experience allowed him to learn installation techniques, understand safety standards, and observe how projects were managed in real time. It also helped him build credibility within the organization through consistent effort and reliability.

As the company continued to grow, Austin gradually moved into positions with greater responsibility. He became involved in workforce development, operational planning, and long term strategy, helping guide the company toward more complex work. In 2016, he was appointed Vice President, where he played an important role in expanding the company’s capabilities. During this period, Austin Roofing & Waterproofing shifted its focus to larger commercial, industrial, and agricultural projects, strengthening its expertise in flat roof restorations, fluid-applied waterproofing systems, and single-ply membrane installations.

Operational execution has remained a defining part of Austin’s leadership. In early 2022, he was selected as the roofing contractor for the Township of Plympton-Wyoming, overseeing the successful completion of a Parks and Recreation Facility. Later that year, he secured a multi-million-dollar contract from a local private equity firm, managing multiple roofing projects across Ontario. These projects required careful coordination, adherence to timelines, and a strong focus on quality, all of which contributed to the company’s growing reputation.

By 2023, Austin was leading projects in more complex environments. He oversaw a complete roof restoration at Ottawa International Airport, encompassing the World Fuel and Sky Service facilities, demonstrating the ability to manage work in an active, highly regulated setting. In late 2024, he was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Austin Roofing & Waterproofing, taking full responsibility for the company’s operations and long term direction.

Under his leadership, the company continued to secure significant projects. In early 2025, Austin oversaw a five year, multi-phase roofing project for Canada Brick’s manufacturing plant, managing the installation and restoration of multiple roofing systems. Later that year, he was selected by the City of Markham as the preferred contractor for a heritage building restoration project, completing the work under strict guidelines and tight schedules. In early 2026, the company was chosen as a preferred roofing contractor for Green For Life Environmental, providing service, maintenance, and oversight for industrial facilities across Ontario.

With more than forty years of operational history, Austin Roofing & Waterproofing has developed into a multi-generational enterprise known for handling complex commercial and industrial facilities. The company serves a wide range of clients, including Fortune 500 organizations and privately owned businesses, and continues to expand across Canada, with a focus on markets such as Calgary through strategic acquisitions. In 2024, Austin extended operations into the United States by founding Austin Roofing America, applying restoration based roofing and waterproofing systems adapted from Canadian operations to U.S. markets.

Innovation has become an important part of Austin’s long term strategy. In 2025, he was awarded his first patent for construction tool technologies, which was independently valued at approximately 43.7 million US dollars. His work in developing new tools and systems is focused on improving efficiency, safety, and performance within the roofing industry, supporting both current operations and future growth.

Now based in Toronto, Ontario, Austin remains closely involved in guiding both Canadian and U.S. operations while also maintaining a commitment to community engagement. He supports youth sports teams, hospitals, and local programs that provide opportunities for the next generation of tradespeople and leaders. Through a combination of hands on experience, operational focus, and innovation, Patrick Austin continues to define what it means to build with consistency, scale, and long term purpose in the modern roofing industry.
