Review: 2024 Chrysler Pacifica PHEV

The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid EV) has been around for a few years. Like any plug-in hybrid, it’s gives a halfway point to full electric vehicles by providing a short EV range and gasoline range beyond.

New this year are upgrades to the high-end Pinnacle trim level. The topmost of the two options for the Pacifica PHEV. The other being the Select. In both models, the interior is upscale in feel and appearance with the Pinnacle being downright luxurious.

The 2024 Pacifica PHEV offers 32 miles of estimated all-electric EPA range and then about 20 mpg combined fuel economy after that. Our average was about 27.5 miles of range per charge, which is good, but we had passengers (3-4) most of the time. A full recharge takes just a couple of hours or so with a 240-volt plug and about 6 or so with a standard household 120 plug.

As a daily driver, the Pacifica PHEV is a well-balanced, nicely-tuned ride. The engine can get a little loud when pushing to make freeway speeds on an onramp and the like, but is otherwise unobtrusive. The hybrid powertrain means that the electrics do most of the work at lower speeds and so things are both peppy and quiet during most drives.

On a road trip with a full passenger load (7 in all), the 2024 Pacifica PHEV was a great choice. Going through the mountains of Wyoming as we ogled wildlife showed the excellent visibility the van has while on the road. And like any minivan, the sliding doors, large interior space, and ease of entry/exit were great. The Family Cam option was also a hit with us.

The only downside we can see with the Pacifica in general, and the PHEV in particular, is its recent reputation for quality issues. Warranty claims and recalls are particularly high for this model.

Pricing for the van is good. The standard Pacifica has a competitive price point. The PHEV model starts at about $52,500 (plus delivery) with our Pinnacle model ringing in at about $63,000. Most buyers are probably going to be in the $57,000 range after add-ons.

For that, you’re getting an extremely comfortable van with a lot of cargo and tons of passenger space. It’s a smooth driver with a very upscale interior and easy driving experience. And one of the tightest turning radiuses in the market.
