In researching UK weather stations it is often quite difficult to exactly locate them. Sometimes the Met Office supplied coordinates are inaccurate but more often the problem is that it is almost impossible to believe that the £multi million Met Office could have them sited so badly. Take a close look at Strabane:Caricklee
I genuinely apologise for being so intrusive into the site owner’s private property but is this the best the Met Office could do? Bear in mind the above is a May 2009 image – the image below is what is has now become.
I am often accused of being sarcastic in some of my reports. In my defence I defy anyone to actually take the UK Met Office seriously when it is knowingly responsible for using readings from this level of “Climate Reporting” site.
Massive and expensive political decisions which affect the futures of every person in the UK are being based on the unproven and highly questionable theory of Anthropogenic Global Warming caused by emissions of carbon dioxide. The alleged evidence from the Met Office that “proves” a climate of dangerously increasing average temperature is actually being recorded from stations as appallingly bad as this one. I could save the Met Office lot of trouble and simply hook up my car’s thermometer to their computer system, it would probably be more accurate.

Strabane:Caricklee gets nowhere near even the most basic standards. It is by a driveway with cars parking alongside, in front of a wall, by a roadside, heavily shaded and getting worse, in fact it is effectively complete junk. Forget “stringent standards” claimed by the Met office as they are quite evidently not being remotely adhered to. The Met office claims to regularly inspect sites to ensure that their standards are met……….really?
