Nissan, LiCAP Partner To Develop Dry Electrode Tech for Solid-State Batteries
On August 20, 2025, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced a strategic collaboration with U.S.–based LiCAP Technologies, Inc. to develop and scale a dry cathode electrode manufacturing process—critical for advancing all-solid-state battery (ASSB) production.
LiCAP brings its proprietary Activated Dry Electrode® technology, a solvent-free process that significantly outperforms traditional wet-electrode methods in terms of cost, environmental footprint, production speed, and performance.
The dry electrode approach eliminates solvent drying and recovery steps, reducing manufacturing complexity, waste, and cost—key enablers for commercial scalability of ASSBs. Nissan began operations on its ASSB pilot line in January 2025. The partnership supports Nissan’s Ambition 2030 plan to launch EVs equipped with its own solid-state batteries by fiscal year 2028.
The collaboration marks a major step toward Nissan’s electrification goals under its “Ambition 2030” vision and underscores both companies’ commitment to bringing sustainable, high-performance battery technology to the global EV market.
