Tropical timings – another look at the Pease/Glenn paper on solar and Jose cycles

In this Talkshop post (2016): Gerry Pease Links Improved and Updated Solar-Planetary paper, the abstract of the linked paper (title: Long Term Sunspot Cycle Phase Coherence with Periodic Phase Disruptions) says:

Figure 3 shows that all of the barycentric solar torque cycles in the 179 year Jose Cycle 1878-2057 (red) are surprisingly phase and magnitude coherent with the torque cycles in the previous Jose Cycle 1699-1878 (blue).

Note: the Jose Cycle is a period equivalent to that of 9 Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions (alternatively, of 15 solar barycentric orbits).

The paper also says, on page 4:

The period 1968 to 1976 is sunspot phase coherent with 1789 to 1797 and also with 1610 to 1618 if the uncertainties of sunspot cycle reconstructions for that time period are taken into account.

On page 8, section 1.2 Sunspot Cycle Phase Disruptive Periods (Figures 13-18) says:

The next six figures (Figures 13 – 18) show the solar paths during and immediately after the Figure 5 torque plateaus of 1609-1618, 1787-1796, and 1966-1976.

The section points out that the ‘solar paths of Figures 13-18 begin with a small near-circular orbit with center offset from the barycenter’. Are these torque plateaus a consistent feature of every Jose cycle?

Here we look at the solar simulator to see how they are represented in terms of solar motion before 1600, i.e. right back to year zero, one Jose cycle at a time.[Starts at year zero, about ten Jose cycles before year 1789 (mentioned above)]. A screenshot of a roughly 10-year loop of solar motion is taken each time. (Solar motion around the barycenter consists of alternating loops and arcs.)

Analysis
========
Note the similarity. As the paper describes we see ‘a small near-circular orbit with center offset from the barycenter’, which ends at or near a Jupiter-Neptune opposition (= J-Sun-N in line). Comparing the loops, it’s clear the orientation changes slightly in an anticlockwise direction from the one before it. A similar effect is seen in the Jupiter-Neptune opposition.

Consider also how the positions of Uranus, and of the Jupiter-Saturn pair, also move in an anticlockwise way relative to the previous graphic.

Having also checked all the 179~year intervals beyond the 1968 one (as far as year 3000, graphics not shown) we’re confident this solar orbit pattern repeats each time at these intervals i.e. the period of the Jose cycle (expected mean value around 178.75 years).

On Arnholm’s solar simulator the display says: ‘Looking down on the Sun’s north pole’ i.e. the visual equivalent of ‘heliocentric’. Anyone can download the simulator and run their own tests, in a software time frame of years 0-3000.
