10 fascinating facts about space
The fascination for space continues unabated and as technology advances, the secrets of the infinitely large won’t cease to amaze.
NASA collects a lot of information, but many physicists, astronomers, mathematicians and other scientists were able to unlock some of the mysteries of outer space.
10.During their visit to the Moon, the natural satellite of the Earth, the astronauts brought back a lot of weight in their luggage. Aboard the ship, they had 380 kg of lunar rocks with them ready for close examination
9.Our Sun has already passed half of its life. Aged 5 billion years, just imagine us as humans living without it ?
8.The bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 had released 84 trillion joules of energy. According to scientific estimates, a supernova (an exploding star) releases 125,000 trillion trillion times more! And I did not repeat the word trillion two times as a mistake .
7.The price of spacesuits is increasing. In 1963, the combination of the “Gemini mission” astronauts had cost about $ 80,000 .In 2000, the EMU combination was worth $ 10 million (photo below). And the next generation of combinations could reach $ 40 million
6.The opposite shape of black holes, these holes where all subjects are rushing, are called white holes. A theory that is not unanimous, but has several followers.
These white holes are real jets of matter and nothing could be absorbed by them
5.The footprints of Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, are probably still visible. Since there is no wind and no water on the face of the moon, there is not erosion either . An impression on its surface is there to stay forever … unless somebody goes there to erase it.
4.This phenomenon had already been observed in 1659 by early astronomers. This periodic disappearance is due to the fact that these rings are not solid and are formed of little particles that orbit around Saturn. At times, they blend together and that way , it appears to be much fewer rings
3.A day on Venus is about one year on Earth . It takes 243 Earth days for Venus to rotate on its axis. On Mercury, a rotation is 59 Earth days
2.Scientists at Yale University have discovered a planet twice as large as the Earth, located in the orbit of a star near our solar system, that would be largely composed of diamonds.
The center of this planet, fully diamond, will be covered with a surface of granite
1.The soundscapes present in the sci-fi movies are just a figment of our imagination. In space, there is no sound.
Sound is a vibration of air, without air, sound waves cannot travel as opposed to Light waves that can travel differently, and most importantly, they do not need air to be transported. The astronauts managed to discuss in space but only inside the vessel, where the air is present and through their communication radios .
