OTL: Tributes from Former Teammates Pour in for Jacoby Jones

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Jacoby leading the players from the tunnel OTL

In tragic news, Jacoby Jones has passed away. The Raven legend that brought you the receiving end of the Mile High Miracle during the 2012 Super Bowl run was just 40 years old. In their statement the Baltimore Ravens shared touching and honest words about a person we’ll remember forever.

“Jacoby had the unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered. His charisma, joy and love created a one-of-a-kind presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day.”

These words ring true, as his personality was as fun as the highlights he made with the Ravens. The world needs more people with infectious positivity, the kind that Jones had. This loss is shocking and sudden and the fun we had with him as a member of the Ravens Flock will never be forgotten. This one hurts. Much like when the great Tony Siragusa passed away, it feels like we all lost a friend. They put so much personality in their work that we felt like we knew them. I feel comfortable speaking for RSR when I say: Jacoby, we love you forever.

Fans and former teammates shared their thoughts about Jones on social media. Jones had a positive impact on all of their lives. Please feel free to use the comment section to share your favorite memories from Jacoby Jones. Let’s share the love on this sad occasion.

Is Odafe Oweh going to have a breakout season?

I know, it feels like we ask this every summer. But…Josh Edwards of CBS Sports compiled a list of players who could potentially have breakout seasons as they are still on their rookie contracts. His selection for the Ravens was Odafe Oweh. This is what Edwards penned on Oweh:

“It is not an ideal time to buy stock in Oweh considering all of the defections from Baltimore’s defensive coaching staff. However, he profiles as an impact player at this level. His sack per pressure rate (9.8%) was relatively low compared to his pressure rate (17.2%), so he will have to do a better job finishing plays in 2024. Unfortunately, that was part of the concern coming out of Penn State. The Ravens have earned a reputation of pulling the most out of that group over the years with the likes of Pernell McPhee, Za’Darius Smith and more.”

One thing is for sure, Oweh has always had the physical tools to be a difference maker. Oweh has a lanky frame and is explosive off the snap. Just looking at this on the surface level it seems odd that the production doesn’t match the potential. This is why Oweh is always going to be a question of untapped potential unless he has a breakout season.

I’ll go with a different player on the defensive front to be my breakout player. Give me Travis Jones going into his third season with the Ravens, to be the most improved player on the team. Jones had 1.5 sacks last season but was an intimidating force on the defensive line. It’s not hard to imagine that he has had the refinement he needs in his game to get up to five or six sacks and to be a constant problem for opposing offensive linemen.

Edwards also put together a list of rookies that were most important to their team’s success in 2024, selecting Roger Rosengarten for the Ravens. This is what he said:

“Baltimore will likely advertise a training camp battle at right tackle between Daniel Faalele, Patrick Mekari and Rosengarten, but one would assume that the job is the 2024 second-round selection’s to lose. Left tackle Ronnie Stanley has struggled to stay healthy and second-year offensive guard Andrew Vorhees will be stepping in for Kevin Zeitler. It is a lot of turnover for a team regarded as the AFC’s best team for much of last season.”

I do like the way Edwards is thinking here. The thing I keep going back to with Rosengarten was the fact that he was put on the right side to be the blindside blocker of left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr. at Washington. He’s coming into the NFL as a trusted pass protector and he looks the part. I do however, see Daniel Faalele as a potential starter for the Ravens. I think it’s an honest competition between two young and massive tackles. Faalele has looked impressive in multiple training camps in a row. The 2022 fourth round pick may not be the favorite – Rosengarten seems like a draft steal – but it’s going to be a fun training camp battle in my estimation. Coach John Harbaugh’s rookie tax (making them prove it before they move up on the depth chart) could give Faalele a head start.

LJ Fun Day was PACKED

Lamar Jackson hosted a sold out event called LJ Fun Day. Jackson has held the event for six years. It looks almost overwhelmingly crowded but Jackson welcomed everyone with a smile.
