Williams to Bounce Back in 2024

Marcus Williams intercepts Jets Joe Flacco

Marcus Williams tenure in Baltimore has not gone according to plan so far.

In his first season in Baltimore, Marcus racked up three interceptions in his first two games and was tied for second in the NFL in interceptions before a dislocated wrist suffered in Week 5 derailed his season.

His second year in Baltimore was defined by injuries as well. Williams suffered a pectoral injury in the season opener which caused him to miss three games. A hamstring injury in week six sidelined him for three more. Even though Williams was able to return from those injuries, he was never 100%.

Williams’ durability was a major factor in the Ravens signing him to a five-year $70 million contract in the 2022 offseason. He only missed four games over his first five years in the league as a member of the New Orleans Saints. In that time, Williams hauled in 15 interceptions and was widely known as one of the rangiest center fielders in the league.

Throughout this offseason, Marcus has shown confidence in his ability to stay on the field and perform at a prominent level for the Ravens in 2024.

“We know what we can do. We know what type of players we are, and we are confident in ourselves,” said Williams when asked about the expectation he has for himself and defensive backfield partner Kyle Hamilton going into this season.

Nobody will be happier to have a healthy Williams back in the mix than new defensive coordinator Zachary Orr.  Williams’ ability to man the Free Safety position will allow Orr to deploy All-Pro ‘Safety’ Kyle Hamilton all around the field. It is no secret the Ravens view Hamilton as the ultimate chess piece. His 465 snaps in the slot were the most he took at any position last season. Hamilton’s second most frequent position was Free Safety where he took 301 snaps. A good chunk of those snaps at Free Safety were a result of Williams being sidelined due to injury. With Williams back, there’s no telling where Kyle Hamilton is going to line up on any given play, which will be sure to keep offensive coordinators up at night when trying to game plan against this Ravens defense.

The twenty-seven-year-old Williams is still well in his prime, and with the departure of Geno Stone, the Baltimore Ravens are counting on their big money safety to have a bounce back season for them.

Expect the confident Williams to deliver his best season yet as a Baltimore Raven.
