Enough with the Post-Deadline Doom & Gloom
Being completely honest, I was not thrilled with what the Ravens did at the deadline. Tre’Davious White and Diontae Johnson? Those guys move the needle for a Super Bowl contender?
But that’s not what I want to talk about today. We’ve talked about the Ravens deadline adds at length. I want to talk about something I’ve already discussed at length: enough with the doom and gloom.
At some point, it must be exhausting to watch the Ravens every week expecting the worst. After the Raiders loss, I think we all needed a little bit of venting. But after winning five straight? I have to read the “fire Harbaugh” tweets after a five-game winning streak?
It’s just a lame way to watch football. If the Ravens are as “doomed” as some say, why watch the games? Why subject yourself to this exercise in tedium? It just seems like a lame way to watch football and I’ve never really understood it.
This is why we’ll always be behind the steelers, browns and bengals. We’re cooked. There franchises will always be run properly

If ravens win a championship it’s not because EDC did a good job with roster construction (because he didn’t) it will be because Lamar will to win finally overcame malpractice

Now, let’s get positive.
This is a very, very good football team. I believe they have everything they need to make a championship run, much like they did last season. I believe, perhaps foolishly, there’s a good defense in Zach Orr’s unit somewhere. And I don’t believe that Orr is a dud of a hire. There’s something there. He’s not Mike Macdonald, but he doesn’t need to be Mike Macdonald for this defense to be good enough for the Ravens to win a Super Bowl.
If this team is destined for another loss to Kansas City in January, it will be upsetting, but fretting over it until they get there is counterproductive. None of us knows what’s going to happen in the playoffs. At the end of the day, that’s what gets all of us on our couches in front of our televisions.
There’s a reason I’m so optimistic about the Ravens: his name is Lamar Jackson. There’s something different about him this year. The way he moves around the pocket trying to find the open man shows what complete command he’s in of Todd Monken’s offense. The biggest difference from this season to previous ones is that his receivers are actually getting open for him. Lamar’s got the best supporting cast of his career, and it’s not even close.
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens running a “No Hot” style. Lamar checks into Max Protect vs Cover 0 Blitz looks often.
I come from a “No Hot” world so I love it but never thought it would work in the NFL.

And that brings us to the end of this. We’ll all be watching Thursday Night Football this evening. Let’s all just enjoy the game, and watch Lamar Jackson play football. Watch him make defensive coordinators pull their hair out in frustration. Watch him turn a busted play into a ten-yard gain.
Just enjoy the ride.
