OTL: Another Hurdle

Bills snowy stadium OTL

(note: that’s an old photo. Buffalo conditions aren’t like that…currently.)

Let’s be real: the better team won on Saturday night, and whatever happened, I think we can all agree that the 28-14 beatdown the Baltimore Ravens put on the Pittsburgh Steelers was the best scenario any of us could’ve reasonably hoped for. Having said that, the Steelers weren’t in the same league as the Ravens. Nor were they in the same league as the Buffalo Bills.

Pittsburgh devil magic aside, the Bills are a far tougher matchup than the Steelers. We all remember what happened the last time the Ravens made the trip up to Buffalo in January. I’m not going to beat that dead horse though. Let’s look forward.

The real quest for Lombardi starts now. Beating the Steelers in the playoffs is all well and good, but it was expected. If the Ravens had managed to lose that game, I would’ve wanted everyone fired. Now, that outrage is reserved for the yellow towel twirlers, while Baltimore prepares for the trek to Buffalo.

I will remind everyone that if the Ravens hadn’t lost winnable games to the Raiders and Browns, this game would be in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson would probably have the MVP in the bag as well, but that’s beside the point. The Ravens have to go to Buffalo this week, and have nobody to blame but themselves.

Yet, I remember a time when a Ravens quarterback had to play Peyton Manning in Denver and then Tom Brady in New England to win his Super Bowl.

Lamar, it’s your turn. Go beat the guy they want to give MVP instead of you.

Go beat Buffalo. Show the Bills Mafia (lovely people by the way, other than some losers on Twitter) what an MVP looks like.

The Funniest GM in Football

It’s no secret that I hold Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta in high regard. I think he’s one of the best GMs in football. Does everything he touches turn to gold? Of course not. I’d still take him running the Ravens over just about anybody else. I just wish I had known how funny this guy was. Well, now I do.

Bravo, sir. Bravo. I cannot overstate: this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen a GM do. Claiming a guy, knowing he can’t play another down for you in 2024-5, just to get a compensatory draft pick, something we all know EDC loves, is peak comedy.

Diontae Johnson didn’t want to help the Ravens on the field? Fine, he’ll help them get a fifth round pick, or whatever it may be, in 2026. DeCosta is playing the long game, and we love to see it.

Beat Buffalo. After that, a taller hurdle awaits in the Midwest.
