You Owe A Big Contract To Pete Alonso, Steve Cohen

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The New York Mets organization, under the ownership of Steve Cohen, has shown a blatant disregard for the contributions of its key players, most notably Pete Alonso. Despite Alonso’s unwavering commitment and significant contributions to the team, Cohen and the Mets’ management have chosen to prioritize flashy acquisitions over rewarding their own stalwart players.

Pete Alonso has given his all to the Mets, earning the respect and admiration of fans and teammates alike. He is widely regarded as the silent captain and leader of the team, embodying the spirit and dedication that any organization should value. Yet, instead of recognizing Alonso’s value and securing his future with a long-term deal, the Mets have turned a blind eye to his contributions.

Steve Cohen’s decision to funnel massive amounts of money into signing Juan Soto, while ignoring Alonso’s rightful demands for a long-term contract, highlights a troubling obsession with outshining the Yankees in the offseason. This fixation on marquee signings comes at the expense of the very players who have laid the groundwork for the team’s successes.

David Stearns, the president of baseball operations for the Mets, has made it clear that the organization is looking to inject younger talent into the lineup. This strategy, however, should not come at the cost of undervaluing a cornerstone player like Alonso. The Mets’ unwillingness to offer Alonso a long-term deal, despite his desire to continue his career with the team, is a slap in the face to a player who has consistently delivered on and off the field.

The recent blockbuster trade to acquire Juan Soto, while impressive, sends a disheartening message to Alonso and the fans. It suggests that the Mets are more interested in making headlines than fostering loyalty and stability within their roster. Cohen’s obsession to beat the Yankees in the offseason, but the Yanks aren’t paying attention, trust me, they’ve moved on.

Alonso, who has been a model of consistency and leadership, deserves more than to be sidelined in favor of the next big name.

Steve Cohen should be ashamed of how he has handled Alonso’s situation. After years of dedicated service, Alonso has earned not only a substantial contract but also the respect and loyalty of the organization. By neglecting to pay Alonso what he is worth and instead focusing on other high-profile contracts, Cohen and the Mets are setting a dangerous precedent that undermines the very foundation of team loyalty and player recognition.

At the end of the day, loyalty should matter… that’s all I’m saying.
