  • The New York Jets welcomed 280 girls from 28 South, West and East London schools to the all-day launch event in London.
  • Participants were joined by current Jets players Quincy Williams and Isaiah Davis to mark the league’s launch and celebrate its continued expansion in year three.
  • Fast-paced and accessible for all, flag football is one of the fastest growing sports globally with women and girls driving some of the largest growth in participation.
  • The event marks the start of an exciting year in London for the Jets who will return to the capital in the autumn as a designated team at the 2025 NFL London Games.

LONDON — Mar. 7, 2025 — The New York Jets are delighted to announce the return of its highly successful Jets NFL Girls Flag league in London ahead of International Women’s Day.

280 girls aged 12-15 from 28 London schools joined the Jets in South London to mark the launch of the league’s third year. The initiative continues to grow in 2025, with six new schools joining, four of which are from East London, in addition to the schools from the South and West of the city.

At the launch event, the girls took part in a host of indoor and outdoor drills designed to introduce first-year participants to flag football while also challenging those entering their third year. Additionally, there was the opportunity for each student to create their own ‘Player Passport’ through NFL combine drills such as Broad Jump, 40-yard Dash & 3 Cone Drill.

2023 first-team All Pro Quincy Williams and Jets 2024 NFL Draft pick Isaiah Davis joined the girls on the day to offer encouragement from the sidelines and try activations. The girls were also presented with their official Nike kits from league presenting partner Nike.

As the initiative enters its third year, and ahead of competing in the 2025 NFL London Games, the Jets remain committed to increasing access to sport for girls across London through flag football. Flag football is the non-contact version of American Football and is inclusive and accessible for all. The sport will officially be included in the LA 2028 Olympic Games program, led by efforts of the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and supported by the NFL.

Starting Thursday, March 6th, all 280 girls will participate across five weeks of the league matches before going head-to-head in the final Championship Event in May. Together, the girls plan and execute winning plays, building life-long psychological skills in strategy, communication, and resilience, and playing the sport can contribute to improved mental wellbeing.

“We are so excited to be back in London for the third year of the Jets NFL Girls Flag league,” said Jesse Linder, Jets Vice President of Community Relations. “We are delighted to welcome our six new schools, and we are equally honoured to see so many familiar faces enter their third year. Increasing girls’ participation in sports is a key priority for the Jets, and flag football is a fantastic way to achieve this, with many benefits extending far beyond the field. Best of luck to all the girls, teachers, and schools competing in year three.”

“I have been lucky enough to attend the 2023 and 2024 launch events for this league, and it is fantastic to see more and more girls and schools getting involved,” said Afia Law, NFL International Flag Football Development. “Girl’s participation in NFL Flag is thriving in communities across London, and initiatives such as these play a huge role. As a flag football player myself, I know firsthand the positive impact it can have, and I hope all these girls feel the same way, too.”

The Green and White will take to the field at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later in the year as one of three designated teams for the 2025 NFL London Games. The game will be the Jets fourth regular season fixture in the UK capital. Their opponent, along with the game date and kickoff time will be announced when the full 2025 schedule is revealed this spring.

The Jets NFL Girls Flag league represents the latest activation by the New York Jets, who were awarded international marketing rights to the UK in 2022 as part of the NFL’s Global Markets Program. The initiative provided all 32 NFL clubs the right to pursue and bid on international markets with the goal of globally expanding the game of American football.

About New York Jets

The New York Jets were founded in 1959 as the New York Titans, an original member of the American Football League (AFL). The Jets won Super Bowl III, defeating the NFL’s Baltimore Colts in 1969. In 1970, the franchise joined the National Football League in the historic AFL–NFL merger that set the foundation for today’s league. The organization takes great pride in a long-standing, year-round commitment to their community. These programs are funded by the New York Jets Foundation and look to positively influence the lives of young men and women particularly in disadvantaged communities. The organization supports the efforts of the Lupus Research Alliance, youth football and numerous established charitable organizations and causes sponsored by the NFL. About New York Jets and flag football

The Jets support for Girls Flag Football began in 2011 with the launch of a league with the PSAL in New York City, becoming the first NFL Club to help launch Girls Flag Football at the varsity level. A decade later, in 2021, the Jets and Nike launched the first High School Girls Flag Football League in New Jersey. Launched with the intention of providing girls an equitable opportunity to play football compared to their male counterpart, the long-term goal of the Jets support was to have the sport adopted as an official high school statewide championship sport, which officially came to fruition last spring in New York and is imminent for New Jersey. In 2023, the Jets launched the first-ever NFL supported girls flag football league in the UK. The league started with 12 teams and has since expanded to 28 for the upcoming Spring season throughout the greater London area. Since 2011, the Jets have committed over $1.5 million to support Girls Flag and create opportunities for girls in football. In total, the Jets will support over 250 Girls Flag Football programs, both domestically and internationally, and over 6,000 participants in 2025.
