Chicago Cubs center fielder Ian Happ (8), Joe Maddon (70), Anthony Rizzo (44), Kris Bryant (17), and Brandon Hyde (16) watch game action against the San Diego Padres in the second inning at Sloan Park.

The Chicago Cubs enter Saturday’s matchup against the Chicago White Sox with a 26-19 record and a one-game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.

The Cubs are expected to make key moves this summer with the pitching rotation to make a run for their first World Series appearance since 2016, when Joe Maddon was the manager of Chicago.

Brandon Hyde was the bench coach for the Cubs under manager Rick Renteria and a first base coach and bench coach under Maddon. Hyde used the Cubs’ success in the 2016 World Series to accept the manager job for the Baltimore Orioles before the 2019 season.

Per the MLB, Baltimore fired Hyde on Saturday.

“The Orioles announce that Brandon Hyde has been relieved of managerial duties,” the MLB posted on X. “Third base coach Tony Mansolino has been named interim manager.”

Hyde went 421-492 in his seven seasons with Baltimore. The Orioles made two postseason appearances under Hyde. The Orioles went 0-3 in the ALDS against the eventual World Series-winning Texas Rangers in 2023 and 0-2 against the Kansas City Royals in the ALWC in 2024.

Baltimore began 2025 with a 15-28 record, and is 10.5 games back from the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.
