Boone Says We Dodged A Bullet Wth Volpe's Injury - But Did We?
In a long MLB season, you ride the waves. At this point, I want off the infield injury wave. I also don’t want it to grow and infect the rest of the roster. We REALLY don’t need that. The next name to add to the list is Anthony Volpe and the Yankees are breathing a bigger sigh of relief than I am.
Volpe felt a pop in his shoulder as he dove to his right in the eighth inning of Saturday’s game. He took his time getting up and he was in obvious pain as he clutched his left shoulder. Aaron Boone and a trainer came out of the dugout but he stayed in the game. Since then he’s had X-rays and an MRI which have come back clean and show no structural damage. That should make all of us feel better right? Well….Baboonie is sending mixed messages once again, read more HERE.
Volpe is still out because his shoulder is “cranky” as Boone is calling it. There is no exact diagnosis at this point and although everyone is saying the Yankees dodged a major bullet….did we? Until we know exactly what is going on and can clear Volpe to play again I don’t trust everything we are hearing. This is the Yankees medical staff we are talking about after all…..and they have made some major blunders.
Boone doesn’t want to jump to any conclusions even with clear test results but he also doesn’t sound super confident either, “hopefully, we’re good,” he said, “but we certainly want to see how today unfolds and how the next couple days are.” Am I the only one who doesn’t find that to be convincing? Seriously, it sounds like more of the same from this team. No one knows what’s really going on and let’s just cross our fingers and hope that everything is okay.
As if DJ LeMahieu and Jazz Chisholm‘s injuries weren’t enough now we aren’t sure what is going on with Volpe just yet. I want to feel as optimistic as Volpe’s test results are at this point….but I won’t celebrate just yet. Truth is, a “pop” of any kind isn’t something to disregard and the Yankees just have no one competent on their medical staff.
Until there is a diagnosis, and a treatment plan with measured progress I won’t be singing a victory song. When there is pain, it’s something. Let’s just hope the something is pretty minor.

Didn’t look like an injury. It looked like he laid down to cover up another error.
