The Chicago Bears took care of one key piece of business ahead of minicamp practice on Tuesday. The Bears had one starter on the offensive line who needed to be properly taken care of after being traded for this offseason.

The Bears sent the Chiefs a 2026 fourth-round pick in the exchange for four-time All-Pro Joe Thuney. Thuney was labeled as a cap cut this offseason, and Kansas City sent the 32-year-old veteran to Chicago in the final year of his contract.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears agreed to a two-year contract extension at $17.5 million per year.

“Compensation update: New Bears guard Joe Thuney is receiving a two-year contract extension at $17.5 million per year, per source, making it $51 million for the next three years with $33.5 million fully guaranteed at signing,” Schefter posted on X.

Thuney is one of the most decorated offensive linemen in the NFL. He’s made three straight Pro Bowl appearances. He’s versatile, as the Chiefs moved Thuney to left tackle last season during the team’s well-documented struggles at the position.

Following the new deal, Thuney will become the fourth-highest-paid left guard in the league, according to average salary, per Over The Cap. Only Landon Dickerson (Eagles), Quenton Nelson (Colts), and Aaron Banks (Packers) are set to make more per year.
