'Let's Not Make Distractions' - Patriots Legend Offers Views on Bill Belichick - Jordon Hudson Relationship

During his historic coaching tenure, Bill Belichick was known as being a tough taskmaster, and his no-nonsense approach clearly proved hugely effective. We are, after all, talking about a man who led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl rings, but now his private life is becoming the type of spectacle he would have derided any of his players for flaunting.

73-year-old Belichick retired as head coach at the Gillette Stadium in January 2024, and though he was apparently courted by the Atlanta Falcons, he moved to college football, signing a mammoth three-year deal worth a reported $10 million a year at North Carolina. However, before he has even coached a single game, he is already making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Belichick is seemingly experiencing something of a very late mid-life crisis, and his current relationship with 24-year-old Jordon Hudson has left many of his former players scratching their heads. From a coaching standpoint point there are many who feel that Belichick is already way past his prime, and the numbers don’t lie. A more stinging rebuke has come from Julian Edelman, the wide receiver who spent 11 years under Belichick’s tutelage at New England, playing a key role in three Super Bowl triumphs. The 36-year-old did not hold back on his assessment of his former coach.

“The No. 1 thing we used to talk about all the time in New England was distractions…‘Let’s not make distractions. The game’s already as hard as it is. To prepare for it, to play, to coach.”

“And regardless of what her role is, Jordon, yeah, I thought he got an unfair public opinion on the whole thing, because that happens all the time. Anytime we do behind-the-scenes this, that, you’ve got someone that represents you, they’re gonna jump in.”

“But now that it’s gained and it’s snowballed to what it’s become right now, where we’re talking about it three weeks later, it’s become a distraction. That’s what we all think right now. This is becoming a distraction. We gotta practice what we preach here,” Edelman added.

By all accounts, North Carolina is doing their best to address the media circus that now surrounds the pair, but one wonders if you can teach an old dog new tricks and whether Belichick is the kind of character, at his age, to listen to any detractors. In other words, this may not end well.
