OTL: 3 UDFAs Make Ravens 53-Man Roster
At last, the Baltimore Ravens’ 2025 53-man roster is set. That is, for the time being. It was a whirlwind of a Tuesday as roster cuts were announced throughout the day, and as we know, the Ravens are often one of the last teams to make their squad official:
Only AFC teams yet to announce their 53-man rosters: Chiefs, Chargers, Jets, Ravens.
— Brian Wacker (@brianwacker1) August 26, 2025
I think the #Ravens might have given their 53-man roster to Michael Phelps and told him to swim it to league offices in New York.

As news floated around the Twitterverse, one of the most surprising updates was this:
BREAKING: #Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has officially made the Ravens final 53-man roster pic.twitter.com/XftcESfBLq

All jokes aside, there was a bit of a shocker announced earlier on Tuesday, with preseason standout Jalyn Armour-Davis getting cut:

I can’t say I am entirely surprised JAD was waived by the Ravens. He was getting a lot of praise from coaches but hasn’t proved to be the most reliable. Young talent emerging this preseason makes more sense to take a chance on.
— RAMEY (@HoodieRamey) August 26, 2025
The young prospect Ramey alludes to is UDFA rookie CB Keyon Martin, who shined in all three preseason games, capping things off with a pick-six against the Commanders.
This is like a horse running down the field from 10 lengths back in the backstretch. Martin was a tryout candidate at rookie minicamp, but stormed into contention over the past month with his splash plays on defense and consistent work on special teams https://t.co/1LVp3thun8
— Bo Smolka (@bsmolka) August 26, 2025
There’s no doubt Martin earned a roster spot, but it was still surprising to see him make the team by way of JAD. That said, I think Spencer Schultz hits the nail on the head here:
Just buried behind Tampa and the vets. They must like Martin on the inside??? Can give them another answer in the event that Marlon gets pushed into boundary heavy due to injury. https://t.co/BkrdGYozjy
— Spencer Schultz (@ravens4dummies) August 26, 2025
While Armour-Davis can play outside, we haven’t seen much of him inside. Many noted how Martin reminded them of former Raven Arthur Maulet, and given how much DC Zach Orr loves flexibility in his secondary, Martin may provide more (along with the upside).
Technical, instinctive, explosive, and physical — Keyon Martin made the most of his opportunity and secured a spot on the #Ravens 53. Well deserved. Congrats, young fella! pic.twitter.com/qtSGE3Vhm7
— Chris Cooper (@ChrisCooper_NFL) August 27, 2025
Keeping Keyon Martin over JAD is a move for both this season and next. The Ravens have both Alexander and Awuzie for only 2025 and Humphrey will require a substantial financial commitment as well to keep. The injuries to Kone and Longerbeam significantly hampered their young CB…
— Ken McKusick (@FilmstudyRavens) August 26, 2025
Similarly, camp standout UDFA S Rueben Lowery has made the team. Is RSR’s Nikhil Mehta a prophet or what?
Been calling this since the spring. Lowery was outstanding in practices and translated it well to the preseason. https://t.co/kmkEF15NhA
— Nikhil Mehta (@nikknowsball) August 26, 2025
If you listen to The Lounge with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, the two consistently praised Lowery, and with Ar’Darius Washington likely out for the season, he seems like a great fit as a depth safety. Chuck Pagano seems to like him, as well:
Asked Chuck Pagano what has stood out about Reuben Lowery: Consistency. First one in the building, last to leave, asks all the right questions. “You know exactly what you’re gonna get.” #RavensFlock
— Brian Wacker (@brianwacker1) August 26, 2025
Meanwhile, fan favorite UDFA Jay Higgins was another question mark. With some uncertainty at the LB position, he made plays and seemed to have earned a spot. Although things were tight, he did just enough:
Glad to see this. The upside is there for him to be a really good player in this league.
I like that Higgins, Buchanan & Simpson are explosive and attack downhill. But Higgins looks fluid in coverage too. Impressive instincts all around.
Chance for Orr to mix/match. #Ravens https://t.co/bZna6Vas7z
— Dev Panchwagh (@devpanchwagh) August 26, 2025
I’m personally thrilled that Higgins made the squad. The Ravens have a history of finding diamonds in the rough, but especially at LB, and Higgins slipped through the cracks of the draft despite his 2024 All-American season at Iowa.
Highest Graded Rookie Linebacker from the 2025 Preseason:

— PFF College (@PFF_College) August 25, 2025
To put it simply, Jay Higgins was the best player on the Ravens during the preseason.
Not the best linebacker, not the best defensive player. He was THE best player. You have to keep him.
— STONE (@stone_2x) August 26, 2025
Say what you will, but his dad seems to know it!
Thanks @HawkeyeFootball for the development! God placed @_jhigg with Ravens organization at such a time as this and he has made me and mom proud!! Go Get #49 Jay Hig !!!! Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you !!!!!!! Only Dawgs play on Ravens!!!! Flock Flock Flock pic.twitter.com/idsscsSnkR
— Roy Higgins III. (@higginized) August 26, 2025
It’s always special seeing UDFA make teams across the league, and I love how HC John Harbaugh highlighted that on Tuesday:
“So much joy… It’s a human thing.” Harbs on the opportunity of telling UDFAs that they have made the team pic.twitter.com/p1vftGnrp9
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) August 25, 2025
Say what you want about the playoffs, decision making, etc.
One day Harbaugh will be gone and this organization will be worse for it.
This man is a tremendous leader and human. https://t.co/GGIPZjVJ2o
— Lamar Flacco (@FlaccoLamar) August 25, 2025
Still, it’s important to remember the composition of the NFL, and that these players do really have a shot to stick around:
The Ravens had 11 picks in the draft and still had 3 UDFA’s make the team.
This tweet from Adam Schefter always comes to mind.
The importance of what scouts and the front office do in the two hours after the draft is bigger than what happens in the final two hours of the… https://t.co/p4ZhsrdlHA
— Spencer Schultz (@ravens4dummies) August 26, 2025
But, as Schultz notes again, they’ll have to do so through Special Teams first:
Realistically, Lowery, Higgins and Martin are making hay on special teams. The Ravens special teams coverage was flat out bad last year, especially to start the year. Hummel and those three, plus Ali, Walker, Buchanan, Kolar, Wester, Tampa, Kane, Mitchell and Ojabo should…
— Spencer Schultz (@ravens4dummies) August 26, 2025
So with that, the Ravens finally announced their official roster late Tuesday night:
Elsewhere around the league, a number of former Ravens were cut by their respective teams. I’ll take you through those quick-hits style:
While I don’t envision any of these guys making a return to Charm City, the Ravens’ next-step is building a Practice Squad. Given his success in predicting Rueben Lowery’s spot on the team, I’ll let Mehta take it away!
Let us know who you want to see added to the PS!
