Projecting Jets 53 Man Roster After Loss to Giants

There will be some changes from our last attempt, but with just one preseason game remaining and little likely to change, here’s our best guess at who stays and who goes.

QB (3)

Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, Brady Cook

Cook deserves to hang around and should get the nod given Tyrod Taylor’s extensive injury history and likelihood that Justin Fields runs the ball a million times this season.  Keeping 3 QB’s is the right thing to do.

RB (4)

Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu

We love Donovan Edwards but Nwangwu is the far superior return man and showed a little bit at running back this summer as well.  No surprises other than that.  Expect the Jets to try to keep Edwards on the practice squad and be the first man added if there’s an injury.

WR (6)

Garrett Wilson, Josh Reynolds, Arian Smith, Jamaal Pritchett, Brandon Smith, Quentin Skinner

Seven is a lot to carry but we’re assuming Lazard’s shoulder lets the team stash him on IR for a couple of weeks and possibly ship him out via trade once healthy.  Pritchett is a twitchy player who can be a problem with the ball in his hands and Skinner gives you a big bodied, physical receiver to develop.

TE (4):

Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert, Stone Smartt, Andrew Beck (FB)

OL (9):

Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Armand Membou, Chukwuma Okorafor, Xavier Newman, Josh Myers, Carter Warren

DL (10):

Jermaine Johnson, Quinnen Williams, Jay Tufele, Will McDonald, Leonard Taylor, Michael Clemons, Tyler Baron, Rashad Weaver, Eric Watts, Byron Cowart

Have to be honest.  There are so many questions on this DL that you could probably come up with a dozen possible lists here.  Will this staff prioritize potential over experience?  Floor over ceiling?  Impossible to say, but we left plenty of guys off this list who we could see making it.

LB (4):

Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood, Jamin Davis, Franciso Mauigoa

We had a tough time with this one because we think the team likes Jackson Sirmon but of course only so many spots to go around.

CB (6):

Sauce Gardner, Brandon Stephens, Michael Carter, Azareye’h Thomas, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Jarrick Bernard-Converse

S (4):

Andre Cisco, Tony Adams, Malachi Moore, Jarius Monroe

ST (3):

PK Nick Folk, LS Thomas Hennessy, P Austin McNamara
