Baltimore Ravens rookie reveals advantage he had over Chicago Bears left tackle

Following the 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7, there are some questions surrounding the Chicago Bears and the remaining 10 games this season.

The four-game win streak was officially ended and the Bears missed a golden chance to make up some ground in the NFC Wild Card race as well. Going up against a Ravens’ defense that was near the bottom of the league in passing, Chicago struggled in that area. They were just 1-of-3 in the red zone and managed one total touchdown in the game.

As Baltimore kept the pressure on quarterback Caleb Williams, a rookie pass rusher recorded his first sack. And after the game, he spoke about a tendency he picked up with the Bears.

Rookie edge rusher Mike Green hasn’t made a big impact just yet for the Ravens, that is until Week 8. Green got his first sack of his career, beating Theo Benedet in the first half to get to Caleb Williams. It put the Bears behind the sticks and was an impact play for the rookie.

After the game, Green talked about what he saw on the play.

“Watching film this week, I knew the left tackle’s tendencies. One move that I wanted to do was a cross chop on him, so that’s what I did, and it worked out perfectly.” Green said after the game, via Bears on Heavy.

The second-round pick did his homework and was able to pick up a tendency on Benedet, the undrafted free agent. That’s smart and also a bit of a worry for the Bears.

Just a few weeks back, head coach Ben Johnson noted that Benedet has been inconsistent. This won’t help his case either.

Chicago is in a bit of a tricky situation at this key position. With Braxton Jones on injured reserve, the Bears backup options to Benedet are rookie Ozzy Trapilo and 2024 third-round pick Kiran Amegadjie. Trapilo worked at left tackle in the offseason before moving to the right side. And Amegadjie has struggled early in his career so far.

The Bears are going to need Benedet to play better or Williams and the offense could face some tough sledding the rest of the year.
