Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson hints at trying out defender on offense

The Chicago Bears improved to 4-2 with a 26-14 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. The Bears did so with a formula that might be familiar to long-time fans: Running and defense.

Chicago rushed for 222 yards against the Saints defense. The Bears won the turnover margin 4-1.
Cornerback Nahshon Wright made a big play in the second quarter to set up a Bears touchdown.
He intercepted New Orleans quarterback Spencer Rattler and made some athletic moves to return the ball near the red zone.

A special play by Nahshon Wright

During his postgame news conference, head coach Ben Johnson credited Wright for making the return, joking he might use the cornerback for a trick play on offense.
“It was a great catch,” Johnson said. “I thought Nahshon hopped on up, and I thought he was going to go down once or twice, but he just kept on going. We might have to give him the ball a little bit on offense as well.”
The Bears could use a spark on offense. Johnson was unhappy with the passing game and presnap penalties on Sunday.
“I would say I was hopeful that by Game 6 we would play cleaner football than that,” Johnson said.
Dennis Allen was the hero for the Chicago Bears
Johnson credited defensive coordinator Dennis Allen for putting his players in position to make plays against the Saints.
“He certainly led the charge there,” Johnson said of Allen. “We don’t win the game if they don’t play that well. They just did an outstanding job.
“Kind of felt it over the course of the week there with the two practices that we were able to get in that schematically he had some really good thoughts that were going to put some stress there on the offense, and I thought that the defense, they just knew where to be, they knew what they were looking for, and it was huge.”
The Bears are set to play the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8. Allen’s defense could be tested against the Ravens if quarterback Lamar Jackson can return from his hamstring injury.
Baltimore is 1-5, but they will be a much more dynamic team if Jackson plays Chicago. They’ll need the defense to play like they did against the Saints to win game number five.
And maybe Johnson will try to give the offense a boost by getting Wright a touch or two against a bad Ravens defense, giving up the most points per game in the league.
